Automation & Controls Technician / Industrial Electrician
Location: Jesup, IA (with occasional travel to Rockford, IL)
Position Type: Full-Time
Travel: 5% – 15% (On-site commissioning & customer support)
Why Join Power Systems International (PSI)?
Since 1998, PSI has been a trusted leader in custom engineering, fluid power, and advanced automation systems. We don’t just build standard components—we design, manufacture, and support highly integrated systems for critical industries, including marine, defense, utilities, and green energy innovations.
When you join PSI, you aren’t just a cog in a machine. You are a critical part of a tight-knit, driven team where your expertise directly impacts the success of custom, cutting-edge projects from concept to deployment.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Automation & Controls Technician/Electrician who thrives on variety and problem-solving. In this role, you will bridge the gap between engineering design and physical execution. You will take ownership of control panel builds, wire complex integrated systems, and head out into the field to bring these advanced automated solutions to life during start-up and commissioning.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Build, Integration & Testing
- Bring Blueprints to Life: Interpret mechanical layouts, electrical schematics, and process control logic to accurately wire, test, and troubleshoot custom control panels and integrated systems.
- Component Integration: Set up and integrate advanced automation components, including sensors, actuators, industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, etc.), and occasionally robotics or vision systems.
- Collaboration: Partner with sales and applications engineering teams to review customer requirements and suggest practical, innovative technical solutions.
Field Commissioning & Support
- Launch Systems: Travel to customer sites to perform and assist with the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment.
- Smart Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, instrumentation, and control loop issues effectively and efficiently.
- System Optimization: Assist with the basic configuration and testing of PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
The Must-Haves:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in an electrical, instrumentation, or a controls role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Technical Sharpness: Strong understanding of industrial processes, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulics, feedback loops, and data acquisition.
- Schematic Literacy: Absolute proficiency in reading and executing industrial electrical schematics and network layouts.
- Safety First Mindset: Deep commitment to safety standards and working knowledge of NFPA 70E requirements.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to professionally represent PSI when interacting with clients on-site.
The Nice-to-Haves (Preferred):
- Electrical Journeyman’s License.
- Accredited associate’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, or Automation.
- Familiarity with PLC/HMI environments (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron) and motion control.
- Experience with robotics and vision systems.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands, and manipulate tools for extended periods.
- Comfort working in both a clean shop environment and varied industrial customer sites (indoor/outdoor, moderate noise levels).
What We Offer
We value hard work and expertise. PSI provides a robust compensation package designed to take care of you and your family:
- Competitive Base Salary (Commensurate with experience)
- Relocation Allowance (Available for qualified candidates)
- Comprehensive Health Package: Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits
- Financial Security: 401(k) retirement plan & Company-paid Life Insurance
- Work-Life Balance: Generous Paid Vacation and Paid Holidays
