Emergency Medicine Locum Opportunity – Indiana

A healthcare system in Indiana is seeking Emergency Medicine physicians for ongoing locum coverage across multiple emergency department locations. Providers must be flexible with scheduling and location assignments based on operational needs.

Compensation: $350/hr

Position Details

Specialty: Emergency Medicine

Start Date: October 2026

Schedule: Variable day, evening, and late shifts

Shift Length: Primarily 9-hour shifts

Coverage Need: Approximately 30 shifts per month across multiple sites

No call required

Inpatient emergency department coverage

Practice Environment

Epic EMR

Temporary privileges available

Full privileges available

Collaborative staffing model with physician and APP support

Hospitalists manage admissions with specialist consultation as needed

Patient Population

Approximately 80% Adult

Approximately 20% Pediatric

Volume & Department Information

Average 15–20 patients per physician per day

Approximately 2 patients per hour

Annual ED volume exceeds 50,000 visits

Comprehensive Stroke Center designation

Full specialty backup available

Complex burns, select pediatric cases, and certain hand cases are transferred when appropriate

Required Procedures

Candidates must be comfortable performing and providing recent logs for:

Endotracheal Intubation

Central Venous Catheter Placement

Lumbar Puncture

Thoracentesis

Paracentesis

Suprapubic Bladder Aspiration

Breast Cyst Aspiration

Nasal Hemostatic Packing (anterior and posterior)

Moderate Sedation

Requirements

MD or DO

ABEM Board Certified or Board Eligible

Minimum 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience

Active DEA required

Indiana license required for practice (licensing assistance available)

Stroke certification required

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to cover 5–7 consecutive days at a time

Flexible schedule and location availability

Clean malpractice and background history

Additional Information

Multiple coverage opportunities available within the health system.

Providers should be willing to work at different emergency department locations based on staffing needs.

Candidates preferring 10-hour shifts may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Credentialing timeframe is approximately 50 days.
