As part of the Critical Care team, the Intensivist will collaborate closely with Advanced Practice Practitioners in a 24-hour, 7 day-a-week model. Responsibilities include managing a mix of Medical, Surgical, Neurologic and Cardiac cases, procedures and managing codes. There may also be opportunities for pulmonary consultation if BE/BC. The ICU promotes an environment of collaboration and support for our multidisciplinary team and our patients. White Plains Hospital has a high-volume Emergency Department with 80,000 + visits annually. We have state of the art interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, interventional neurology and complex surgical procedures. **Essential Functions*** 1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.* 2. Coordinates the care (evaluation, treatment, admission, and discharge) of patients who are admitted with neurologic and general critical illness.* 3. Thoroughly, and with adequate frequency, communicates with patients, appropriate family members, specialty consulting physicians, and hospital staff regarding the status of the admitted patient.* 4. Provides education for staff and patients / family with whom the Intensivist interacts.* 5. Oversees activities of Advanced Practice Providers (NPs & PAs) in the ICU.* 6. Institutes immediate and appropriate intervention in life or disability-threatening emergencies.* 7. Documents evaluation of and treatment given to all patients. Provides each patient with discharge instructions, both oral and written. Gives referring physician verbal and written report upon discharge of patient.* 8. Works assigned shifts and when on-shift does not leave the Hospital Campus.* 9. Attends all relevant professional meetings scheduled for the Department.* 10. Participates in chart review and organized activities to reduce length of stay and improve quality outcomes.* 11. Participates in institutional initiatives such as disaster planning and response, environment of care /safety, risk management, etc.* 12. Performs all other related duties as assigned.**Qualifications*** MD Required or* DO Required* Required* Teamwork & Adaptability* Acts as a Professional Role Model* Assessment Skills* Excellent Communication Skills (both verbal and written)* Attention to Detail* Planning & Organizing* Sound Problem-Solving, Judgment and Decision-Making Skills* Stress Tolerance* Experience managing patients with acute and unstable neurologic injury* Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, have legible handwriting* Must have sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform all the procedures, techniques and skills listed in* the delineation of privileges.* Ability to position self to assess and care for patients, perform required procedures* The person in this position frequently communicates with patients, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations* Compliance with CME Requirements (Hospital, Regional, State, and Federal)* Experience managing patients with acute and unstable neurologic injury* MD Doctor of Medicine - New York State Upon Hire Required and* ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association Upon Hire RequiredWhite Plains Hospital Medical Center is an equal employment opportunity employer.
