SDOH Screening & Outreach Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities Montefiore Medical Center welcomes volunteers to support patient care and experience across multiple units. Volunteers will screen patients for social determinants of health, provide outreach, confirm appointments, and offer comfort and support during various hospital experiences. Roles & Responsibilities Nursing Unit Comfort Care Round with nursing floor teams. Answer call bells and provide comfort by offering water, ice, and blankets. Speak with patients and read to them. Greet visitors. Perioperative Rounding Assist patients and loved ones during outpatient procedures. Provide non-clinical support to staff by assisting with administrative tasks. Round on patients, families, and visitors. Child Life at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) Run therapeutic play programs in a developmentally supportive environment. Organize playroom groups for games, art, music, video games, and more. Engage in bedside visits with individual patients for crafts and games. Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart Navigate the Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart throughout approved CHAM units. Distribute complementary drinks, healthy snacks, coloring books, and other items. Ronald McDonald Family Room Assist families with needs while in the family room. Support families in a relaxing environment with coffee, snacks, TV, and more. Physical & Occupational Therapy (PT/OT) Students Provide indirect patient care: setting up and cleaning up treatment areas. Provide therapists with equipment and supplies. Welcome and direct patients and family members. Collect surveys and observe treatment sessions as appropriate. Program does NOT allow clinical patient contact. Applicants must be applying or have applied to PT/OT school. Pre-Physician Assistant (Pre-PA) Students Provide indirect patient care: setting up and cleaning up treatment areas. Provide equipment and supplies as requested, transport patients, welcome and direct patients and family members. Observe treatment sessions and perform light clerical duties. Students must identify preceptors and receive approval from VSS and program coordinator. Program does NOT allow clinical patient contact. Applicants must be applying or have applied to PA school. Commitments & Eligibility Minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service. Eligibility to work at least 3-4 hour shifts.
