Job Summary

This position is responsible for the high-standard performance of the company’s production equipment, as well as the upkeep, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems throughout the company’s main facility. This role offers the opportunity to apply your knowledge by working with the engineering and quality teams on equipment design, testing, and modifications.  The successful candidate must be proactive and flexible, able to respond competently to urgent situations, and handle stressful conditions calmly and decisively.

Responsibilities:

• Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production machinery and facility equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, including motors, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Perform MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding as required.
• Design, build, modify, and repair jigs, fixtures, tooling, work holding devices, machine guards, brackets, frames, platforms, and other manufacturing aids.
• Work closely with production and engineering personnel to identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, ergonomics, safety, and product quality.
• Develop practical solutions to manufacturing problems through mechanical design, fabrication, and equipment modification.
• Take measurements and create sketches or basic drawings for custom parts, fixtures, and equipment modifications.
• Build and test jigs and fixtures to ensure proper fit, function, repeatability, and operator usability.
• Modify existing tooling and fixtures to improve production efficiency, quality, and ease of use.
• Fabricate components from steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other materials as required.
• Diagnose equipment failures and determine the appropriate repair or replacement of components.
• Perform equipment alignments, adjustments, lubrication, and component replacement.
• Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, cutting equipment, drill presses, grinders, and other shop machinery safely and effectively.
• Assist with installation, relocation, and modification of machinery and production equipment.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and document completed repairs, projects, and preventative maintenance activities.
• Inspect equipment and tools for potential safety, mechanical, or operational issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance and fabrication work area.
• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable welding and hot-work practices.
• Work cooperatively with production, engineering, quality, and other maintenance personnel.
• Perform other maintenance, fabrication, and improvement projects as assigned.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Skills training at vocational college
• Minimum 2 years of job-related experience
• Experience working in the manufacturing industry
• Demonstrated welding and metal fabrication experience.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Proficient in welding, electrical, machining, fabrication, and facilities
• ·Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Ability to design and build jigs, fixtures, tooling, and other custom devices used in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to visualize mechanical solutions and translate concepts into functional fabricated components.
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to safely operate common maintenance and fabrication tools and equipment.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and manufacturing needs.
• Expert knowledge of standard equipment and facility safety regulations
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and schematics
• Preferred CAD i.e. SolidWorks knowledge
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues
• Ability to effectively communicate with facility managers and visiting contractors
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.

Safety Responsibilities:

• Wear the appropriate PPE in the required areas of the building and according to the scope of work being performed
• Follow site safety and any department specific protocols
• Report safety hazards or potential safety hazards to reporting Supervisor
• Attend company safety meetings

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to walk the entire facility without difficulty
• Must be able to occasionally carry or lift up to 50 pounds
• Possesses strong coordination and dexterity
• Ability to work around machinery, noise, heat, dust, and other industrial conditions.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, or respond to emergency maintenance needs when required.
