Data Center Operations Technician

Salary: $86,278.4 - 96,678.4 per year Requirements:

• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a data center, server room, lab, field-services, or hardware-deployment environment.
• Practical experience with rack-and-stack work, hardware installation and moves, cable management, and enterprise servers, network equipment, storage systems, console servers, and PDUs.
• Experience with copper and fiber-optic cabling, patch panels, optics, labeling, tracing, and basic cable testing.
• Working knowledge of server components, including CPUs, memory, drives, power supplies, fans, NICs, and motherboards.
• Ability to interpret rack elevations, cable schedules, port maps, installation guides, work orders, and equipment diagrams.
• Experience maintaining hardware inventories, asset records, shipping and receiving documentation, and spare-parts records.
• Basic understanding of IP addressing, network ports, link status, console connections, and out-of-band management tools such as iDRAC or iLO.
• Familiarity with ticketing, inventory, data center infrastructure management, or asset-management systems, and ability to troubleshoot basic power, hardware, cabling, connectivity, and device-access issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, organization, reliability, and ability to follow procedures and escalation paths.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or technical training in IT, electronics, networking, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to work scheduled maintenance windows and provide occasional after-hours support as needed.
• Ability to safely lift and move equipment using approved tools and team-lift procedures, and to work in racks at different heights.
• Preferred: Experience with platforms such as Cisco, Arista, HPE, Dell, Lenovo, Supermicro, APC, Raritan, or Server Technology; GPU or high-density compute, virtualization, storage, or enterprise networking; hardware validation, firmware upgrades, OS installation, or VMware ESXi deployment support.
• Preferred: Familiarity with structured cabling standards, fiber and connector types, optics, power distribution, and redundant A-side/B-side power; experience coordinating with vendors, carriers, contractors, logistics teams, or remote engineering groups.
• Preferred: CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, BICSI, CCNA, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Rack, stack, de-rack, relocate, and install servers, network and storage equipment, and related data center hardware and components.
• Connect, route, dress, label, trace, test, and document copper and fiber cabling, power, network, management, console, and storage connections.
• Verify power, link status, console access, management connectivity, and basic device reachability after installations.
• Maintain accurate hardware, asset, cable, rack-location, serial-number, and spare-parts records; receive, inspect, stage, document, and store incoming equipment.
• Coordinate equipment shipments, returns, warranty replacements, RMAs, and secure disposal.
• Perform basic hardware diagnostics and break/fix work, including replacement of supported components such as drives, memory, power supplies, fans, CPUs, and NICs.
• Open and track vendor support cases, coordinate replacement parts, and assist remote engineers and vendors on site.
• Provide remote-hands support, including controlled power cycles, cable changes, console connections, visual inspections, and hardware-status checks.
• Update rack elevations, port maps, cable records, diagrams, inventory systems, tickets, and installation checklists.
• Follow change-management, maintenance-window, safety, security, access-control, and escalation procedures; keep racks, cabling, and work areas orderly.
