Registered Nurse-Same Day Surgery Unit

Job Description The Registered Nurse will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population, conducting thorough assessments, designing and implementing personalized care plans, administering medications and treatments, evaluating patient responses, and coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity throughout the treatment process. The RN will educate patients and families about health conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care, empower informed decisions, monitor and record vital signs, observe changes, respond promptly with appropriate interventions, consult with medical team members as needed, and document care in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards. Location and Schedule City/State: Norfolk, VA Work Shift: Rotating Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient assessments. Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans. Administer medications and treatments per protocol. Monitor patient vital signs and clinical status. Respond promptly to changes in patient condition. Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care. Educate patients and families about health conditions and post-discharge care. Document nursing care in the medical record. Uphold patient safety and evidence-based protocols. Qualifications and Requirements Must hold Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire. Depending on clinical area, must obtain specific certifications within the required timeframe: Critical Care/Intermediate Care Unit – ACLS within 90 days. Emergency Care – ACLS & PALS within 90 days. Oncology Care – ONS/ONCC or Sentara-approved Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months. Women’s Care – NRP within 6 months. Inpatient Pediatrics – PALS within 90 days. Possesses clinical knowledge and skills required by the specific clinical area. Demonstrates sound understanding of routine nursing procedures and RN/LPN scope of practice. Applies the nursing process and critical thinking model to provide competent nursing care.
