Job Description

In a training situation and under supervision, initially prepares simple and routine food dishes. Progresses to preparing more difficult and specialized food dishes as capable. Performs a variety of tasks in preparation and cooking of food. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under supervision of the Director of Nutrition Services or designee who assigns and inspects work for conformance to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Prepares and cooks routine and convenience items using variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
2. Assists in variety of baking tasks involving making scones, cakes, cookies, breads, muffins, etc.
3. Plans and portions routine items. Checks with CafCafeteria and Jazzman's Cafe on food needs.
4. Prepares meats and other foods including specialty items for Jazzman's Cafe.
5. Prepares services, maintains, breakdowns, and cleans both Panini and Pizza station of Cafeteria. 6. Takes and regulates temperatures to ensure food items are within regulatory agency guidelines. Records results and provides supervisor with results.
6. Cleans and washes dishes, utensils, and equipment as necessary.
7. Maintains high sanitation standards in cooking and storage of food.
8. Performs routine kitchen tasks including daily prep work.
9. Completes paperwork and quality assurance monitors as assigned.
10. Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.

Qualifications

• High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
• Three (3) months experience in cooking, preparing, portioning, or serving a variety of foods within the last two (2) years.
• Working knowledge of food and food preparation.
• Working knowledge of operation, care, and sanitation of kitchen equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to meet the physical standards of the job.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, public and other Medical Center employees.
