Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Cardiac Telemetry unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and the ability to manage high patient turnover in a night shift role.

Details

• Hospital-based Cardiac Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
• Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac catheterization, unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVA/TIA, and post-uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular procedures
• Unit manages multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone; nurses must be comfortable titrating drips
• Unit also cares for COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BiPAP during surge periods
• Patient ratio is 1:5–6; candidates must be comfortable managing 6 patients during surge
• Unit typically turns over 78–90 patients per week, with nurses potentially turning over their entire assignment in a single shift
• Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• Every other weekend required, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in every 6-week period
• On-call required; frequency depends on patient census
• Floating is required
• Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; block scheduling is not permitted
• EMR: Epic (Dimensions); medication dispensing via Pyxis; SBAR for communication
• Special equipment includes telemetry monitors, pulse oximetry, high-flow O2 (stable patients), non-rebreather mask (palliative only), and BiPAP (chronic use only)

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required; may submit with license pending
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Strong IV start and telemetry skills required
• Experience with pre/post procedure cardiac patients, cardiac drips, and PCI required
• Must be comfortable with high patient acuity and rapid patient turnover
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a different rate
• Orientation is 36 hours; candidates must be available every day during the first week for hospital orientation
• Approximately 8–10 hours of online modules must be completed prior to start and annually
• Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• No RTO permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday
• Previous permanent, PRN, or employee pool staff of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
• Scrubs must be navy blue, white, or a mix of both; Novant t-shirts are permitted; jackets must match uniform color and be non-fleece material; no Crocs with holes
• A team lead is available on the unit to assist with admissions and discharges
• Contract extensions beyond 13 weeks are possible; candidates may also opt for 36 or 48 hours per week where applicable
