Summary: The Compliance Specialist ensures all cargo shipments meet legal and regulatory requirements and is responsible for providing support to the operations team, assisting in the audit of AES records, screening business partners and aiding with the improvement and implementation of policies and training programs. This role will manage compliance with TSA, Department of Homeland Security and international trade regulations.

Essential Functions :

· Collaborate with internal staff in the development and improvement of global processes and procedures to ensure the company’s compliance with domestic and international shipping regulations.

· Assist management with building training programs to educate employees about integral import, export, and security functions.

· Support the Security Coordinator with the management of employee, authorized agents, and shipper records in websites administered by the Transportation Security Administration (“TSA”).

· Assist with the integration of new agents, airlines, and shippers into the company’s business environment.

· Perform background checks and screen new shipping parties as they are integrated into the company’s network.

· Respond promptly to external and internal concerns, and implement corrective actions, when needed.

· Interact with employees and customers to answer questions related to freight forwarding compliance.

· Audit ACE/AES records, and assist with their distribution. Provide feedback to filers when consistent errors are recognized.

· Review the tariff classifications and pertinent data reported by shippers on their invoices and SLI, as well as assist clients and employees with the determination of tariff classifications, when requested.

· Assist with the daily review of import and export traffic through the company’s operation to detect and avert possible violations.

· Provide support to management when researching information to respond to routine inspections from regulators.

· Working knowledge of international and /or domestic cargo and freight forwarding

· Firm understanding of tariff classification and import/export regulations

· Ability to work independently with little to no supervision on a daily basis

· Relationship building skills; able to establish and maintain partnerships with agents and vendors

· Problem solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational issues

· Ability to perform effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities and business demands

Qualifications:

· Prior experience in freight forwarding, transportation or logistics 

· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or related field a plus

· Working knowledge of Harmonized Tarrif Schedule (HTS), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Internal Traffic in Arms (ITAR)

· Strong knowled of government shipping regulations and requirements, including applicable domestic and international transportation guidelines.

· Eposure to shipping softwre a plus

Physical Demands :

· Extended periods at work station, using keyboard, viewing computer screen, and communicating by telephone and in person. May be required to travel by car or plane.

· May be required to lift and carry storage boxes < 25 lbs

Work Environment : 

· Work environment is generally quiet, and in an office setting.
