ABOUT NORTHSIDE Northside has been a staple of the Harlem community since its founding in 1946 and a pioneer at the intersection of education and behavioral health for Black and Latino children. Several of its programs were the first in Harlem and established the standard of care for many social service agencies. Northside’s founders, Doctors Kenneth and Mamie Clark, were psychologists whose breakthrough Black/White Doll Study was used as evidence in Brown v. Board of Education, which declared public school segregation unconstitutional. The philosophy behind this landmark decision, now on its 70th anniversary, continues to inspire Northside to create and drive innovative programs that focus on the strengths of families and the importance of children’s self-esteem. We are seeking full-time Family Assistants for our locations in the Head Start Programs serving children from birth through five. Family Assistants work in collaboration with center staff to ensure children and families receive comprehensive services according to Head Start Performance Standards. Responsibilities: Recruit, enroll, and obtain appropriate records of children and families to ensure full enrollment and waitlists. Actively participate in parent or group meetings, community collaborations, and affiliations to advocate for Head Start children and families. Ensure health requirements are met according to Head Start Performance Standards. Perform recordkeeping, including written documentation, scheduled reports, and mandated reporting, in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner. Ensure regular communication with families regarding screenings, assessments, and surveys to provide needed information regarding medical, psychological, and social services as needed. Partner with families on assigned caseload to identify child and family needs and appropriate ways of meeting those needs through family goals and referrals. Refer families and children to resources within Northside and community organizations for social service needs as necessary. Conduct home visits in conjunction with education staff and as social service needs arise. Attend or facilitate meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor. Engage in ongoing professional development through education, role modeling, mentoring, and training. Observe and interact with children enrolled in the center. Assist families in developing, maintaining, and periodically updating Family Partnership Agreements on a quarterly basis. Participate in program annual self-assessment and federal reviews. Monitor children’s annual physicals and assist families with obtaining medical support services and documentation of annual physicals and immunizations. Perform other job duties as assigned. Qualifications and Credentials: AA degree in Human Services or related field. BA degree in Social Service, Child Development, or related field. Family Development Credential (FDC). Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. Ability to write using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and to organize documents accurately. Effective communication skills with community members, groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families, both individually and in group settings, adhering to government regulations (HS Performance Standards). Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. #J-18808-Ljbffr
