About the Opportunity

Vector Talent Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of an established heavy construction and infrastructure organization seeking an experienced Materials Manager to support a major construction project in Southern Ohio.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to lead field materials operations for a large-scale infrastructure construction project. This is a field construction leadership position, not a traditional warehouse or manufacturing materials role.

The Materials Manager will oversee the personnel and processes responsible for receiving, inspecting, tracking, staging, storing, issuing, and maintaining construction materials throughout the project lifecycle. This individual will work closely with project management, construction leadership, procurement, vendors, and field crews to ensure materials are available where and when they are needed to support the construction schedule.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field materials operations and supervise materials personnel supporting the project
• Oversee Materials Coordinators, Materials Representatives, and associated yard and material handling activities
• Manage receiving, inspection, staging, storage, kitting, issuing, and tracking of construction materials
• Coordinate material requirements with project management, construction leadership, procurement, vendors, and field crews
• Maintain accurate inventory and material tracking throughout the project lifecycle
• Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, packing lists, bills of material, and project requirements
• Manage over, short, and damaged material discrepancies and coordinate resolution with appropriate project stakeholders
• Monitor material availability and identify shortages or delivery issues that could impact the construction schedule
• Oversee laydown yard organization, material preservation, storage, and movement
• Support cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, audits, and project closeout activities
• Ensure accurate transactions and reporting within the project's material management system
• Establish and maintain safe, organized, and efficient field material operations
• Develop and provide direction to Materials Coordinators and Materials Representatives
• Communicate material status, shortages, risks, and priorities to project leadership

Qualifications

• Previous materials management or material control experience supporting heavy construction or major infrastructure projects
• Prior leadership experience overseeing field materials personnel, coordinators, yard operations, or material handling teams
• Strong understanding of construction material receiving, tracking, staging, issuing, inventory control, and reconciliation
• Experience working with purchase orders, packing lists, bills of material, construction drawings, and material documentation
• Experience coordinating material requirements with construction schedules and field operations
• Familiarity with material tracking, ERP, or warehouse management systems such as JDE, ClearSpider, SAP, Oracle, Maximo, or comparable platforms
• Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate across field operations, procurement, logistics, vendors, and project leadership
• Comfortable working in an active outdoor construction environment and supporting extended project schedules as required
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting electric transmission and distribution projects
• Substation construction experience
• Oil and gas or pipeline construction experience
• Nuclear project experience
• Heavy civil construction experience
• Industrial or EPC construction experience
• Offshore construction experience
• Experience supporting large-scale utility or infrastructure projects
• OSHA training or applicable construction safety certifications

We are seeking an experienced field materials leader who understands that successful construction materials management goes beyond inventory control. The ideal candidate can lead field personnel, maintain disciplined material tracking processes, anticipate shortages and delivery risks, and ensure construction teams have the correct materials in the correct location when they are needed.

This position requires someone who is comfortable working directly in an active construction environment and can effectively coordinate between field operations, procurement, logistics, vendors, and project leadership.

Compensation:
