Job Title: Production Supervisor
Job Description
The Production Supervisor leads daily manufacturing operations in a high-volume engine production facility, overseeing both assembly and machining activities. This role drives safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance while managing and developing hourly teams and supporting other group leaders. The supervisor ensures that production schedules, quality standards, and cost targets are consistently met in a fast-paced, unionized environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily manufacturing operations for engine assembly and machining, adjusting plans as needed to meet production requirements.
- Drive performance across safety, quality, productivity, cost, and ergonomics with a strong focus on SPQRCE principles.
- Supervise, train, develop, and evaluate hourly team members, typically leading teams of approximately 20 employees.
- Build and sustain high-performing teams by motivating employees and reinforcing standardized work methods.
- Ensure team members receive thorough Job Instruction Training (JIT) and maintain competency in their assigned tasks.
- Coach, counsel, and mentor other Group Leaders to strengthen overall leadership capability within the operation.
- Lead and support Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes or similar operating systems to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Serve as a key resource for launch and pilot production activities, supporting new product or process introductions.
- Meet or exceed production schedules, cost targets, and quality objectives while maintaining high standards of efficiency.
- Apply lean and synchronous manufacturing principles and variation reduction techniques to improve processes and reduce waste.
- Implement systems and corrective actions that prevent the recurrence of known issues and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain strong awareness of established quality standards and expectations and ensure all processes consistently meet these requirements.
- Oversee production and quality inspections, problem-solving activities, and built-in quality initiatives on the shop floor.
- Understand and consistently administer National and Local UAW Agreements to support a fair and compliant work environment.
- Foster a respectful, compliant workplace culture that supports teamwork, communication, and accountability.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices, including ergonomics and housekeeping, in alignment with strict safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workplace that supports safe and efficient operations.
- Ensure effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to optimize throughput and minimize downtime.
- Support continuous improvement in material flow and supply chain efficiency to ensure timely availability of components.
- Troubleshoot operational issues in real time, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Utilize basic computer tools such as email and word processing to manage communication, documentation, and reporting.
- Support timekeeping and scheduling processes to ensure accurate labor tracking and adequate coverage across shifts.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience leading teams in a manufacturing, production, or supply chain environment, typically supervising around 20 employees.
- Proven experience supervising, training, developing, and evaluating hourly employees.
- Demonstrated leadership experience as a group leader in quality, production, or materials/supply chain.
- Experience working in a unionized environment, ideally with UAW, including leading union-represented teams.
- Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and variation reduction methods.
- Experience meeting production schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements in a high-volume operation.
- Ability to promote and enforce safe work practices, including ergonomics and housekeeping.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications, including email, word processing, and typing.
- Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts and weekends, including extensive overtime as required.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to hold teams accountable.
- Ability to manage change and ambiguity in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of quality control practices and built-in quality concepts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred and may be required for certain direct roles.
- Experience in automotive manufacturing or other high-volume production environments.
- Familiarity with Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) or similar global operating systems.
- Prior experience supporting launch or pilot production activities for new products or processes.
- Experience with built-in quality initiatives and methodologies such as DFSS or Red X certification.
- Knowledge of timekeeping systems and labor tracking tools.
- Experience in safety-focused environments with strong emphasis on ergonomics and housekeeping.
- Experience in project scheduling and process improvement within a manufacturing setting.
- Exposure to material flow optimization and supply chain efficiency initiatives.

Work Environment
The role is based in a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized engine manufacturing facility focused on precision production, continuous improvement, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards. The plant specializes in internal combustion engine production, including 3.0L turbo-diesel engines and next-generation small-block V8 engines, with core processes such as engine assembly, engine block machining, piston assembly, and rigorous quality checks. Operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and candidates must be open to working any shift, with schedules determined after hire. The position requires arriving approximately 30 minutes before shift start, working 6 to 7 days per week, and being prepared for significant overtime. The environment emphasizes on-time delivery to quality and cost targets, close collaboration with cross-functional teams, and adherence to established safety, housekeeping, and ergonomic standards in a modern industrial setting

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
