Orion GNC Engineer

The Orion GN&C Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, TX .

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and evaluate safety-critical, human rated GN&C flight software. Develop, integrate, and test new GN&C algorithms. Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for evaluation of vehicle and mission performance. Develop, integrate, and test new algorithms for trajectory optimizations. Provide recommendations for improvements in design and software development processes. Other duties as assigned.

This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information. Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering . Must have 1+ years of recent and related work experience. Experience with Kalman filters. Experience with development of modeling spacecraft systems performance. Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and spacecraft system analysis. Experience with development and analysis of 6 DOF algorithms and simulations. Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles. Experience with design, verification, testing, and operation of GN&C software. Experience with LINUX, Python, MATLAB, Simulink, and C/C++. Experience with Git/GitLab version control. Experience with the development of space system requirements and documents.

DESIRED

Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning. Experience with safety-critical, human-rated embedded software development. Experience with Object oriented software development. Experience with Agile software development. Experience with spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking. Familiarity with spacecraft docking systems. Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements (including safety). Experience with NASA flight operations and procedures. Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites. Experience with the NASA Trick simulation architecture and JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics).

WORK LOCATION

This position is located onsite and offers a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required. Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check and some positions require clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS

Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS. All of Bastion's employees must be team players with strong work ethics and must be culture oriented. Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers. Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives. Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements. Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time). Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
