Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active Nursing License Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Strong knowledge in MedSurg, Infectious Disease, and Isolation precautions Description: Unit specializes in Medical Surgical and Infectious Disease care. Travel experience is required for this position. Experience with the EPIC charting system is required. Unit consists of 18 private rooms designed for isolation due to infectious diseases. Nurse-to-patient ratios typically range from 1:5-6. In COVID circumstances, the ratio may adjust to 1:4 with support from 3-4 RNs per shift. BLS certification is the only required certification for this role. Common patient diagnoses include various Infectious Diseases, Isolation cases, COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff. Nurses are expected to manage common titratable and set rate IV medications, including Heparin and typical MedSurg antibiotics. There is a Charge Nurse available 24/7 with the day charge nurse able to take patients if necessary. Night charge nurses will always take a full patient assignment. Two Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) will be present per shift. Respiratory Equipment includes Cpap, BiPap, or High flow managed by Respiratory Therapy. Remote telemetry monitoring is available; RNs will not read or interpret telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled as 0700-1930 and 1900-0730 with a 30-minute lunch break. Permanent staff manage their own schedules, while travelers will be placed according to unit needs. Block scheduling will be allowed if unit needs are met. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, covering Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights. Holiday shift requirements will depend on unit staffing needs. Travelers may be the first to float to other units as needed. The dress code requires Royal Blue scrubs; scrub jackets must also be royal blue if worn. The dress code prohibits hoodies or sweat jackets. Orientation includes one day of EPIC training and one day on the floor with a preceptor before independent practice begins. Cancellation policies allow for a limited number of shifts to be cancelled during the assignment. Position involves working in an acute care setting.
