Director, Clinical Pathology

This Director, Clinical Pathology role serves as a surgical pathology expert, bridging pre‑analytic surgical pathology and post‑analytic molecular testing. The position supports daily operations, collaborates with cross‑functional teams, ensures quality and timeliness, and plays a key role in internal and external inspections and new laboratory process development. Essential Duties Lead and manage the Pathology team, ensuring high‑quality, timely processing and effective daily scheduling for all clinical laboratory pathology reads. Analyze pathology costs, prepare budgets, troubleshoot technical and non‑technical issues, coach and mentor staff, and manage projects to support growing business needs. Establish and enforce policies and procedures for all pathology activities, monitor competency, and provide remedial training as needed. Lead Pathology training for onboarding and ongoing competency assessment. Act as subject‑matter expert and critical resource for complex H&E and IHC review, sample management, and expert microscopic review. Lead or participate in Clinical Pathology process improvements and oversee new technology integration, including digital pathology systems and artificial intelligence. Partner with the Laboratory Director to maximize sample management quality and molecular output efficiency. Develop professional relationships and provide consultative service to key internal stakeholders, including Customer Service, Medical, Molecular Laboratory, Biorepository, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Service Engineering, Process Engineering, Information Technology, and Medical Software. Provide expertise in tissue review, and contribute to the development, writing, and review of study concept sheets, study protocols, abstracts, and manuscripts. Collaborate on new product commercial launches, training staff, standardizing and documenting SOPs. Assist in defining sample submission criteria, respond to customer service outreach, train staff on product queries, and support post‑market product lifecycle activities. Review submitted pathology reports and materials, and publish molecular testing reports. Provide input on educational slide decks, sales materials, speaker events, training programs, and advisory boards. Build relationships with external pathology key opinion leaders and represent ExactSciences at pathology and laboratory medicine meetings. Effectively manage, support, and guide the team, assessing performance and providing feedback and training opportunities. Maintain reliable attendance and meet physical job requirements, including light lifting and occasional travel. Minimum Qualifications M.D./D.O. and board‑certified in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology. 10+ years of experience in Diagnostic Anatomic Pathology. Demonstrated diagnostic skills in Surgical Pathology. Experience leading teams, projects, or committees with demonstrated influence and cross‑functional collaboration. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding prioritization skills and a high drive to results with an emphasis on quality. Excellent collaboration skills. Demonstrated ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation. Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Arizona Medical License. Completion of a Molecular Pathology Fellowship or 5+ years’ experience in molecular pathology testing. Experience with integrating artificial intelligence into pathology workflows.
