This role is responsible for executing rigorous systems engineering processes to support the design, integration, and management of complex nuclear systems throughout their lifecycles. Working within established model-based systems engineering frameworks, this position ensures all system components work together effectively and meet project requirements. The Systems Engineer focuses on verifying and validating product requirements according to the systems engineering lifecycle process while maintaining clear documentation of design decisions and system interfaces.Job Profile Tasks/ResponsibilitiesLead the execution the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and some latitude for independent judgment.Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.Lead small groups of engineers to solve complex technical problems and deliver high quality engineering work products on time and within budget.Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering the interdependencies and interactions between various components.Lead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding:Stakeholder and operational analysisRequirement identification, decomposition, and managementFunctional decomposition and modelingLogical system architecture development and modelingPhysical product definition, interface management, and change controlDesign integration and testingSystem verification and validationConcept of operations development and modelingDevelop and maintain system behavior models using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.Lead the identification and monitoring of technical risks and the development of risk mitigation strategies.Support value engineering activities including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Execute systems engineering processes within X-energy's quality management framework.Work across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards.Always maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.Perform other duties as assigned by manager.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, or other engineering related discipline from an ABET accredited institution required.Level II: Typically, three years of experience in an engineering role required.Level III: Typically, five years of experience in an engineering role required.Level IV: Typically, ten years of experience in an engineering role required.Level V: Typically, fifteen years of experience in an engineering role required.Level VI: Typically, twenty years of experience in an engineering role required.A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.Experience with systems engineering software tools.Experience and/or knowledge in a minimum of one of the following areas:System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288)Operational & Stakeholder AnalysisRequirements ManagementSystem Design & Interface ManagementDesign Integration & TestingVerification & ValidationModel-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Tools and Methods & Product Lifecycle Management Systemse.g. Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORSLocation: 9801 Washingtonian Blvd, Gaithersburg, MDWork Site Expectations: 4 days in officeTravel Expectations: Up to 10% as neededHours: 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Monday-FridayCompensationAs required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).
