Registered Nurse Bill rate: *** No overtime or holidays - All male facility - Minimal walking or stairs - Must clear metal detector daily (remove all items including cups, bags, purses, etc.) Job Duties (These duties are illustrative only. Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties or other related tasks as assigned.) Provides professional nursing care to students hospitalized in a student health services unit, or to inmates, juvenile offenders, or consumers housed in a state-owned/operated facility or institution, as well as staff. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of infirmary patients and/or clinic out-patients. Conducts nursing rounds, takes and records vital signs, prepares and administers prescribed medications, ordered treatment plans, and immunizations. Monitors restrained patients (e.g., lock-ups, detention, isolation) at regular intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes) and provides immediate medical attention in emergencies (e.g., administers first aid, arranges transportation to hospital emergency room, contacts physician when necessary, counsels patients regarding medical referrals). If assigned, schedules, assigns, and reviews work of lower-level staff (e.g., RNs, LPNs), including authority to approve or disapprove leave requests or complete performance evaluations, though this is not mandatory. Participates in staff development and education, reviews care plans written by staff, and trains and orients new employees. OR In a corrections medical center, responsible for all health care of 20-60 bedridden inmates. Makes rounds, evaluates care needed and provided, develops care plans, teaches health care principles, administers medications including narcotics, and provides all direct nursing care as needed. Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, chemotherapy, wound care, oxygen therapy, dialysis, blood transfusion, intubation and CPR, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, and phlebotomy. Organizes and oversees the 'code blue' team; directs health care staff (e.g., hospital aides and licensed practical nurses) assigned to the area; acts as lead worker in charge of one assigned shift in the absence of a higher-level nurse. Assists physicians in conducting diagnostic health evaluations. Performs clerical tasks including charting and recording all medications, treatments, and pertinent medical information; completing required reports such as incident and accident reports; documenting Medicaid information; ordering supplies and equipment; maintaining accurate inventory of all controlled drugs, medications, and equipment. Arranges outpatient clinic appointments and medical examinations by physicians. Coordinates new and refilled prescriptions ordered by physicians through local pharmacies. Performs administrative duties and serves as liaison within the organization. Conducts or attends meetings, occasionally serves as an instructor, and participates as a member or leader of problem-solving teams or groups. Minimum Qualifications Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio as issued by the Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of the Ohio Revised Code.
