About Hebrew Public
Hebrew Public is a small and growing network of schools operated by Hebrew Public: Charter Schools for Global Citizens. Hebrew Public is a secular organization that welcomes candidates of all backgrounds into a supportive and inclusive community.
Across the network, Hebrew Public schools serve children from all backgrounds and help students become global citizens who are strong problem solvers, aware communicators, and lifelong learners committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. Our schools are models of racial and economic integration, academic excellence, and world language learning.
Why PHP?
As part of Hebrew Public, Philadelphia Hebrew Public teachers and staff have the opportunity to bring that mission to life with students from over 37 zip codes across Philadelphia, primarily Black and Brown students whose brilliance, curiosity, and potential drive our work every day.
PHP is rooted in the belief that all students deserve rigorous academics, strong relationships, and access to a globally minded education that expands what they see as possible for themselves. For educators who want their work to matter beyond the classroom walls, PHP offers a place to help close opportunity gaps while nurturing students academically, socially, and culturally.
You don't need to speak Hebrew to apply, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups to join our community.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and student-centered Elementary Teacher to teach core content areas and build a joyful, structured, academically strong classroom for students. In grades K–2, teachers teach all core content areas, including literacy, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning. In grades 3–5, teachers typically specialize in ELA, Math, or Science/Social Studies, allowing them to deepen content expertise and collaborate closely with grade-level teams.
Teachers use EL Education for ELA and Eureka Math for mathematics to deliver standards-based instruction that supports strong academic growth.
The ideal candidate brings strong elementary instructional practice, excellent classroom management, and a deep belief in the brilliance and potential of all students. This is a meaningful opportunity for an educator who understands that elementary school is foundational to students' confidence, identity, independence, and long-term academic success.
What You'll Do
Instruction & Student Support
- Teach standards-based lessons aligned to your grade level and role, whether teaching all core content areas in K–2 or specializing in ELA, Math, or Science/Social Studies in grades 3–5
- Create a structured, engaging classroom culture with clear expectations, strong routines, and high levels of student engagement and accountability
- Differentiate instruction to meet a range of student needs, including intervention, acceleration, and enrichment
- Support students' social-emotional growth and help them develop the skills needed to be successful learners and community members
Planning, Assessment & Data Use
- Internalize and prepare purposeful lessons aligned to grade-level standards and curriculum expectations
- Use student work, formative assessments, and summative data to adjust instruction and monitor progress
- Identify student strengths, misconceptions, and gaps in order to plan targeted support
Collaboration & Family Engagement
- Collaborate with grade-level, content, special education, multilingual learner, and leadership teams to support student success
- Partner with families to communicate student progress, strengths, and areas for growth
- Contribute to a positive school culture rooted in care, accountability, and shared responsibility
Professional Responsibilities
- Model Hebrew Public's OLAM values: outstanding problem solving, continuous learning, making a difference, and intentional communication
- Participate in intellectual preparation, coaching cycles, classroom observations, and feedback conversations
- Engage in ongoing professional development and actively seek feedback to improve practice
- Align your work with school-wide priorities and strategic initiatives
Who You Are
- Deep belief in the limitless potential of all students and commitment to helping them thrive as global citizens
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required
- Pennsylvania elementary teacher certification, or active progress toward certification, preferred
- Experience working in urban school communities and a commitment to building strong relationships with students, families, and staff preferred
- Experience with EL Education, Eureka Math, or other high-quality instructional curricula preferred
- Strong understanding of effective instructional practices, student engagement, and classroom culture
- Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to build clear routines, high expectations, and a positive classroom environment
- Ability to use student data to adjust instruction, address gaps, and accelerate growth
Career Development and Support
At PHP, teachers are not expected to grow alone. We invest in educator development through:
- On-site team of Climate staff and Social Workers to support students and families
- Instructional coaching and feedback cycles
- Intellectual preparation and collaborative planning
- Professional development opportunities
- Opportunities to apply for funds to support pathways toward teacher certification
Compensation
Hebrew Public's compensation model, SuRGE — Supporting, Rewarding, and Growing Educators — is designed to recognize the skill, commitment, and impact strong teachers bring to classrooms.
After your first year, you may be eligible for 5% or 10% increases annually based on your classroom impact, without needing additional graduate coursework. SuRGE also includes built-in salary enhancements for valid Pennsylvania certification and hard-to-fill roles, offering a transparent and accessible path for educators to grow their compensation while doing meaningful work with students.
