This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.Department/Employer Operating Hours - M-F 8am-5pm; some evening/weekend hours required for eventsHow many hours per week are required? - 10-15 hoursDescription of Primary Duties - GENERAL FUNCTION Gain hands-on experience in public media while building practical skills in graphic design, visual storytelling, community engagement, event planning and marketing. This position supports the creation of visually compelling materials that promotes events, programs and initiatives that connect Ozarks Public Television and KSMU Radio with the community. The Graphic Design and Events Assistant works closely with the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator to support fundraising events, outreach efforts, and audience engagement activities, with a primary focus on designing and producing content across print and digital platforms. Responsibilities include creating promotional graphics, developing visual content for campaigns and communications, assisting with brand consistency, and supporting the distribution of marketing materials. The role also includes assisting with event logistics, outreach efforts, and the OPT Kids Club.This position is ideal for a student interested in graphic design, marketing, communications, or nonprofit work who is eager to build a professional portfolio and develop creative skills in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESContent Creation & PromotionDesign graphics for digital and print materials; social media, digital promotions, email campaigns, media kits, web content, sponsorship materials, flyers, posters, event signage, etc. using tools such as Canva.Ensure all content aligns with KSMU and OPT brand standards and visual identity while maintaining consistency across platforms, campaigns, and materials.Assist with the distribution of promotional materials for events, programs, and initiatives, including posters, flyers, and social media content, and help deliver materials to local community partners and organizations to support outreach and event visibility.Develop written content to promote community engagement and fundraising efforts, including email communications, physical letters, and other outreach materials.Event & Campaign SupportAssist in the planning, coordination, and execution of community engagement and fundraising events (such as Seuss Science Day, Writers Contest, Trivia Nights, pledge drives, and volunteer opportunities).Support logistics, event setup, participant communication, and day-of event operations.Assist with coordination of outreach opportunities such as station tours, community events, and school visits, as needed.Support volunteer-led opportunities by assisting with coordination, communication, and on-site needs for events and activities involving volunteers.OPT Kids Club CoordinationSupport the implementation and management of the OPT Kids Club.Engage members through mailed materials, birthday recognitions, and ongoing correspondence throughout the year.Inclusive EngagementHelp foster an accessible, inclusive and welcoming presence that reflects diverse communities and perspectives.Other DutiesPerform additional duties as assigned to support community engagement, events, and station initiatives.BenefitsBuild a professional portfolio with real-world design and social media projects.Gain hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing, branding and audience engagement.Work in a creative, mission-driven media environment.Develop both visual design and digital marketing skills.Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments.Required Qualifications - Must be eligible for work study through Missouri State University. Proficiency in graphic design tools, including Canva; experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) preferred. Ability to create professional, brand-aligned digital and print materials. Strong writing, communication, and organization skills. Interest in public media, community engagement, event planning, marketing, communications, or nonprofit work. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
