NATURE OF WORKFairfield Memorial Critical Access Hospital is seeking a detail‑oriented, organized, and service‑focused Unit Secretary to support our Medical‑Surgical Unit. This position plays an essential role in maintaining an efficient nurse’s station, supporting clinical staff, and ensuring smooth communication and workflow throughout the department. The Unit Secretary contributes directly to high‑quality patient care by managing clerical functions, assisting with order entry, and promoting a positive, patient‑centered environment.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProvide an organized, efficient physical work environment. Maintain a clean, orderly, and well‑structured nurse’s station to support smooth workflow and quick access to essential information and supplies.Improve patient care by relieving nursing staff of routine clerical duties. Support nurses by managing clerical tasks such as answering phones, processing forms, and coordinating communication between departments.Monitor, order, and restock unit supplies and maintain organized supply areas. Track inventory, submit supply requests, restock materials, and maintain clean, organized storage areas to support uninterrupted patient care.Report changes in patient needs or condition to nursing staff promptly. Respond to call lights, assess patient requests, and immediately notify nursing staff of any concerns or changes in condition.Transcribe physician orders accurately into the HMS Order Entry system. Enter physician orders with a high degree of accuracy to ensure timely and correct processing of patient care instructions.Enter medication orders accurately through the E‑MAR system. Input medication‑related orders into the electronic MAR system when required, ensuring precision and compliance.Maintain patient medical records by labeling and filing chart forms correctly. Organize, label, and file chart documents to maintain complete, accurate, and accessible patient records.Assist with patient movement during emergency situations. Support nursing staff during emergencies by helping with patient movement and following direction quickly and safely.Report any incidents of violence involving staff, patients, or visitors.
