Certified Medical Assistant/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA)Reports to: Director of Clinical NursingStatus: Non-Exempt (Hourly: $20.50 - $26.50)Job purpose: The CMA/RMA is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team of the health center, providing support to the Heartland Community Health Center (HCHC) medical providers with direct patient care, maintaining exam rooms and equipment, and assigned clerical duties. This position is responsible for patient intake, vital signs, phlebotomy, laboratory support and serves as a liaison between the front desk staff, the providers, and the nurses in the provision of care.Duties and responsibilities:Works in harmony with others, exhibits a positive attitude and commitment to the health center mission. Actions show commitment to team effort, works well with others, supports group objectives, and participates in staff meetings and team problem-solvingConsistent patient-centered, caring disposition is a must for this positionPerforms daily exam room inspection, ensuring supplies are adequately stocked for patient careInterviews patients to obtain medical information including list of current medications and allergies; obtains vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse and blood pressure readings; Records information into EHRPerforms procedures as directed by medical provider including but not limited to EKG, peak flows, ear lavage, minor procedures, dressing changes, vision and hearing screeningsAdminister vaccines and injections to patientsAssists with laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, various dipsticks, urinalysis, hematocrit, glucose screeningAssists medical providers with procedures, exams and treatment of patientsMaintains exam rooms, keeping equipment clean, sterilized and rotatedMaintains adequate supplies of linens, medical equipment, paper supplies needed for daily clinical operationsRelieves other departments as indicated; provides coverage when necessaryKnowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to professional certification, patient confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA, patient treatment & safety guidelinesPerforms other related duties as assigned or requestedQualifications:High School graduate or equivalentMedical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant course trainingCertificate of graduation and proof of certificationOn-the-job training, with previous experience in a health care environment strongly preferredAbility to learn/navigate computer systems such as an electronic health record system and Microsoft Office; generally technology-savvyStrong verbal communications skills and ability to communicate ideas successfullyAbility to establish and maintain effective work relationshipsAgrees to uphold Heartland's guiding values of Compassion, Respect, Collaboration and IntegrityRegular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the jobPersonal maturity, cooperation, and ability to communicate clearlyAbility to remain calm when under pressureHigh energy, positive, ability to work autonomously, flexibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and high degree of initiativeWorking conditions:Potential exposure to infection and contagious diseases, and unpleasant patient or unit elementsFast-paced, high stress environment with frequent interruptionsJob tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other peopleRequires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditionsRequires dealing with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous people and other conflict situationsFrequent walking, sitting, standing throughout the dayRequires use of hands to grip, handle, control or feel objects, tools, controlsRequires standing, walking, bending, twisting, squattingOccasionally lifting of items weighing up to 25 poundsPhysical requirements:Requires repeating the same physical activities or mental activities over and overRequires walkingRequires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controlsRequires bending or twistingRequires standing and walkingOccasionally lift items weighing up to 25 poundsDetails:Hours M – F from 7:30 am – 7 pm as needed.
