Department Details

The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is a short-term care area designed for patients who require medical evaluation and treatment that can typically be completed within 24 hours. It provides a monitored setting for patients who are not admitted but still need diagnostic testing, symptom assessment, or therapy that can't be done at home. Patients remain in the CDU until a diagnosis is made and they are either discharged or admitted for further care. The unit serves as an extension of the Emergency Department, offering a more appropriate space for continued observation and care.

Responsibilities

• Plans and coordinates patient care, assessment, education, triage and various other nursing interventions
• Collaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care
• Empathetically cares for patients during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of care
• Demonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertise

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
