About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: SICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: VA or Compact License required Certifications: ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - 2 years of experience in critical care nursing - Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Arterial line management - Blood product administration Description: The SICU population includes trauma patients, cardiovascular surgery patients, neurosurgery patients, and other complex surgical patients. The nurse will manage acute ventilator needs, COVID-positive patients with high oxygen demand, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe sepsis, unstable gastrointestinal bleeding, trauma cases, open heart recovery, and multi-system organ failure. The nurse will also oversee continuous renal replacement therapy. Ratios will be 1:2-3 based on skill level and acuity. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. The clinician may float within the scope to meet facility needs. The unit serves a diverse patient demographic consisting of adults and geriatrics. Daily census is approximately 30 patients. The unit is certified as one of the top cardiovascular surgery centers and can accommodate conscious sedation at the bedside. Special procedures available include bedside EGDs, chest tube insertions, and bronchoscopies. Central line placements can occur in the room for many patients. Special equipment used includes Swan catheters, internal temperature management devices, ICU specialty beds, balloon pumps, CRRT machines, and ventilators. The nurse must be skilled in various critical care protocols and management techniques. Travelers may float within the facility or to nearby affiliated facilities based on census and volume.
