Supervisory Park Ranger (Protection)

Summary This position is located in El Malpais National Monument, in the Visitor and Resource Protection. Major Duties Responsibilities of the Supervisory Park Ranger (Protection): Serve as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer performing duties including detection and investigation of violations of federal criminal laws. Perform short‑ and long‑term management planning, including budget formulation and execution and setting division goals and priorities. Supervise and manage law enforcement and resource protection programs and Visitor and Resource Protection employees. Communicate and work effectively with others. Education Law Enforcement Commission: Must currently possess or have previously held within the past three years a FLETC issued Land Management Police Training (LMPT), a full Type I Law Enforcement Commission or equivalent; or be qualified to receive a Type I Commission upon appointment by 7/27/2026. There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level of this announcement. Requirements U.S. citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Subject to pre‑employment physical and drug testing. Must possess a Type I Law Enforcement Commission. Must carry a firearm while performing duties and maintain firearm proficiency. Must be free of any domestic violence convictions. Must meet physical fitness standards, including medical examination and vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility assessment; periodic medical examinations will be required. Benefits This is a secondary‑administrative law enforcement position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). Please note that not all applicants may be eligible for special retirement coverage; selected employees placed in the regular retirement system are automatically covered under CSRS or FERS.
