Senior Systems & Cloud Engineer

Job Description

Job Description

Baltimore Consulting is a Hunt Valley-based managed services provider serving organizations throughout the Baltimore/Washington region. We’re looking for a Senior Systems & Cloud Engineer who can take ownership of complex technical issues, serve as a trusted escalation resource, and communicate confidently with clients.

You’ll work across Microsoft 365 and Azure, Entra ID, Intune and Defender, Windows Server, virtualization, firewalls, switching, wireless and VPN infrastructure . The role combines advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure projects, proactive client improvements, and technical escalation. You’ll also speak directly with clients, translating technical issues into clear recommendations and building long-term relationships.

This position is primarily in‑office in the Baltimore Metro area, with one remote day per week. We believe in‑person collaboration enhances response times, strengthens mentorship, and builds deeper client relationships. Occasional on‑site client visits are required and are typically local.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a senior escalation resource for complex technical issues across Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, networking, virtualization, and security, providing remote and on-site support as needed.
• Design, configure, and manage Microsoft Entra ID and Intune solutions across client environments.
• Configure and manage Microsoft 365 security and compliance services, including Conditional Access, Identity Protection, Microsoft Defender, and Microsoft Purview .
• Design, implement, and migrate client infrastructure solutions across Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, and virtualization platforms.
• Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot firewalls and network infrastructure, including resolving complex network outages at client sites.
• Provide responsive client support via phone, ticketing system, and email, assisting with technical issues remotely and on-site as needed.
• Perform proactive maintenance on client environments and collaborate with account teams to recommend infrastructure improvements.
• Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule (approximately 1 week every 3 months)
• Support project work occasionally outside business hours — typically 2–4 planned maintenance windows per year, with advance notice.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 6+ years of professional IT experience, preferably in an MSP or consulting environment.
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues, communicate recommendations to clients, and take technical ownership through resolution.
• Strong networking expertise: firewalls, managed switches, wireless, and VPNs — from deployment through ongoing management and troubleshooting.
• Advanced Microsoft 365 and Entra ID administration , with hands-on experience in Intune, Defender, Conditional Access, identity/security controls, and multi-tenant environments.
• Strong Windows Server and Azure infrastructure experience , including virtual machines, storage, networking, and identity integration.
• Comfortable scripting and automating tasks with PowerShell.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
• Strong communication skills — able to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent prioritization skills and composure when managing competing demands.

Nice to have:

• Relevant Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Security, or Identity certifications.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to team knowledge-sharing practices.
• Familiarity with PSA/RMM tools common in MSP environments such as Autotask, Datto RMM, IT Glue, etc.

Benefits :

• Health coverage - medical, dental, and vision insurance (90% company-paid for individual coverage and 50% company-paid for family coverage)
• Gym Membership
• PTO - Paid time off and holidays
• Retirement plan with employer match
• Mileage reimbursement for business travel
• Certification budget - Annual reimbursement for exams and training
