Job Description
Registered Respiratory Therapist

Schedule

Shift: 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM, 3 x 12-hour shifts per week, every other weekend and holiday. No call time required.

Position Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care in all settings within the health center. Responsibilities include administering aerosol therapy, conducting airway clearance, performing blood gas analysis, endotracheal intubation, and managing ventilation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma and an Associate's Degree in Applied Science with a major in respiratory care.
• Experience: Clinical experience obtained during respiratory care training.
• Licensure: Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Must possess a valid Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board.
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NRP certifications required.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Conducts patient assessments and evaluates the effectiveness of care provided.
• Administers basic respiratory care, including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway clearance, incentive spirometry, BiPAP, and blood gas analysis.
• Performs advanced respiratory procedures such as endotracheal intubation and ventilator management, utilizing critical thinking skills to resolve clinical issues and optimize patient care.
• Identifies learning needs of patients and their families and provides appropriate education.
• Responds to emergency situations, including Code-Blues, Code-Pinks, Rapid Response Teams, and Trauma Teams.
• Documents care provided in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Maintains effective communication with all members of the healthcare team, including SBAR handoffs and reporting of critical test results.
• Actively participates in process improvement activities to enhance the quality of care.
• Performs non-patient care duties related to respiratory care, including equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance for blood gas analyzers.
