Group Fitness Instructor

Description

Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructor is a part-time, non-exempt position and primarily responsible for creating and implementing engaging group fitness classes and providing a safe and effective class environment for a variety of fitness levels for RecPlex members and guests. Fitness Instructors may instruct classes for children (ages 8 - 13) or adults (14+) in a variety of group fitness specialties.

Job Duties

• Develops and implements class routines while utilizing proper form, technique, and progression.
• Monitors participants' form and technique, offering modifications and adjustments as needed to promote safety and effectiveness.
• Provides guidance and support to participants, encouraging their progress and fostering a positive fitness experience.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with class participants, responds to their feedback and suggestions to continually enhance the fitness experience.
• Promotes teamwork, fills in as a sub as needed, and supports the overall goals of the Fitness Department.
• Records participant attendance each session and conducts participant evaluations and surveys on an as needed basis.
• Ensures that fitness area is kept clean, class equipment is returned to its proper place, and reports any issues with sound or exercise equipment.
• Attends regularly scheduled meetings and training sessions and stays up to date with industry trends and standards.
• Promotes classes and other areas of the RecPlex: pool, league sports, special events etc.
• Provides professional and helpful service when addressing the safety, welfare and concern of members, guests, and the general public.
• Adheres to all Village, RecPlex, and Department rules, regulations, policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines.
• Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the Fitness Department.

Requirements

Physical

• Frequent public interaction and requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
• Primarily indoor fitness/recreation environment either in a gymnasium, studio, or pool setting with exposure to varying temperatures and humidity, slippery surfaces and pool chemicals.
• The position requires cardiovascular fitness and adequate muscle strength for the assigned group fitness class and participation in continuous aerobic activity for a minimum of one hour at a time.
• May work with a variety of exercise equipment including, but not limited to elastic bands, dumb bells, mats, steps, weights, balls and stereo microphone.
• CPR, AED & First Aid certification required within thirty (30) days of hire.

Educational, Certifications and Experience
These are guidelines. The final placement will be the decision of the Operations Superintendent - Fitness & Member Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 1:$19.00hr-$24.00hr PT1924

• 18+ years of age
• Certification in group fitness instruction from a recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, Les Mills).
• CPR, AED, & First Aid Certification required within thirty (30) days of hire.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with participants and create a supportive atmosphere.
• Passion for health, fitness, and helping others achieve their wellness goals.
• Ability to adapt and modify classes based on participant needs and feedback.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 2: $24.00/hr. - $29.00/hr. PT2429
In addition to Level 1

• 5+ years of experience leading group fitness classes.
• Consideration for specialty certifications (e.g., 200-hour yoga certification) or expertise in high-demand areas

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level 3: $27.00/hr. - $32.00/hr. PT2732
In addition to Level 2

• 10+ years of experience leading Group Fitness classes.
• Consideration for advanced certifications or additional high-need specialties (e.g., 200-hour yoga certification)
