RN Labor and Delivery

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides skilled nursing care for high-risk and high-volume maternal and newborn patients in a fast-paced, high acuity environment. This role includes managing labor and delivery processes, newborn care during and after delivery, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse must be proficient in electronic fetal monitoring and comply with AWHONN guidelines, with a strong focus on patient safety and quality care. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to laboring and delivering mothers, including high-risk cases.
• Serve as the Baby Nurse during delivery and continue newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
• Perform newborn assessments, administer vitamin K injections, and care for newborn eyes and thighs.
• Float between postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities as needed, supporting mother/baby units.
• Utilize electronic fetal monitoring and comply with EPIC hard stop protocols.
• Collaborate with midwifery clients, private OBs, and community care clinics, including adult recovery services.
• Work in operating rooms as required, including circulating duties (non-circulate candidates will not be screened).
• Manage patient diagnoses involving heparin, insulin, magnesium sulfate, and other high-risk treatments.
• Adhere to staffing guidelines based on AWHONN standards.

• Active Registered Nurse license with at least 1 year of high-risk Labor and Delivery experience.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Experience with electronic fetal monitoring and EPIC electronic health records.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high acuity labor and delivery environment.
• Compliance with AWHONN guidelines for labor and delivery nursing.

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications.

• Must be willing to float to postpartum, antepartum, and sister facilities as needed.
• Work every other weekend and holidays as required.
• Strict adherence to EPIC hard stop protocols; candidates unable to circulate or provide newborn care will not be considered.
• Pre-approved time off handled on a case-by-case basis.

• Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs.
• Typical patient census is approximately 15 per day with 500-600 deliveries per month.
• Work includes rotating shifts in a 31-bed labor and delivery unit with 4 operating rooms.
