Job Title: Mechanical Project Engineer

Job Description

The Mechanical Project Engineer will take ownership of designing, managing, and delivering custom mechanical equipment and systems tailored to customer requirements. This hands-on role spans the full project lifecycle, from concept and CAD design through fabrication, assembly, testing, and commissioning. The engineer will provide technical leadership, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and interface directly with customers to ensure that solutions meet performance, quality, and schedule expectations.

Responsibilities

• Design custom mechanical equipment and systems using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.

• Manage projects from initial customer specifications through design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and final delivery.

• Interface directly with customers to gather requirements, clarify specifications, provide progress updates, and ensure overall satisfaction.

• Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and technical deliverables to keep projects on schedule and within scope.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including fabrication, controls, and field service, to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and serviceable.

• Oversee equipment testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning both on-site and remotely to verify performance and resolve issues.

• Create and maintain detailed documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, manuals, and specifications.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives by standardizing design practices, improving build processes, and contributing to best practices.

• Update and improve engineering documentation to reflect design changes, process updates, and lessons learned.

• Design vacuum impregnation systems, including large tanks and related mechanical components, to support sealing of porosity in cast or molded parts.

• Design piping layouts and schematics to support custom equipment and impregnation systems.

• Lead the design of custom equipment with a strong emphasis on mechanical functionality, reliability, and ease of manufacture.

• Apply mechanical calculations to solve complex system problems, such as structural loading, drive sizing, and conveyance system design.

• Select and size water pumps, gear motors, cylinders, and other mechanical components to meet system performance requirements.

• Coordinate and help manage projects that typically range from several months to multiple years in duration.

• Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to effective project coordination and customer relationships.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in OEM design, machine design, or equipment design.

• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor for mechanical design.

• Ability to read and generate detailed engineering prints and technical drawings.

• Previous project management experience, including planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering projects.

• Hands-on mechanical design experience within a manufacturing or equipment-building environment.

• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to carry on technical and project-related conversations with customers and internal teams.

• Experience with hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems and light industrial electrical components.

• Ability to oversee testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of mechanical equipment both on-site and remotely.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

• Experience performing mechanical calculations to solve complex system problems, including structural loading, drive sizing, and conveyance systems.

• Experience sizing water pumps, gear motors, cylinders, and other mechanical components.

• Familiarity with standard fabrication methods and their implications for design and manufacturability.

• Experience designing vacuum impregnation systems or similar process equipment is an advantage.

• Experience designing piping systems and schematics for industrial or manufacturing applications.

• Experience in custom equipment design, particularly for sealing porosity and optimizing manufacturing processes, is beneficial.

• Comfort working on long-term projects, with project durations ranging from approximately 3 months to several years.

• Experience working closely with manufacturing teams and in a production environment is a plus.

Work Environment

The role is based in a standard office environment that is attached to a manufacturing facility, providing direct access to the production floor and equipment. The team follows a hybrid work schedule, typically with three days remote and two days on-site, offering flexibility while maintaining strong collaboration.

You will join a laid-back, friendly engineering team of approximately six other engineers who value open communication and teamwork. The organization is consistently growing, with multiple product lines and a strong focus on custom equipment solutions.

This is a Permanent position based out of Solon, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
