Colorectal Surgery Faculty Opportunity – Open Rank Department of Surgery University of Texas Medical Branch – Galveston, Texas About UTMB UTMB was established in 1891 as the first academic health center in Texas and is a component of the University of Texas System. It includes five schools and a network of hospitals and clinics providing primary and specialized medical care, research facilities. UTMB is a large university‑based hospital with more than 13,000 newborn nursery admissions and over 600 NICU admissions annually, and is a Level 1 trauma center and ECMO center in the Houston area. It has expanded to additional hospitals in Clear Lake, League City, and Angleton, offering pediatric and surgical specialties. Position Overview The Department of Surgery is seeking candidates with outstanding clinical skills, a collaborative spirit, compassion and a desire to provide high quality care. The person in this position will be responsible for providing direct patient care, including surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, and care of hospitalized patients. He or she will participate in teaching activities including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching, rounds, teaching students and residents in the operating room, clinics, and inpatient services; continuing medical education; and local, regional, and national meetings. Administrative responsibilities include supervising and evaluating residents and students and participating in committee memberships at the departmental and health‑system levels. Minimal Education and Experience M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical institution. Accredited residency training in general surgery. Completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship. Current unrestricted license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Board certification or board eligibility by the ABS and ABCRS.
