The RN collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other interdisciplinary team members in delivering healthcare services. The RN assesses patient needs, develops and implements care plans, and evaluates medical and nursing regimens in accordance with hospital and nursing philosophy, policies, and standards. They demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth. Responsibilities Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated. Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions and outcomes. Ensures appropriate documentation based on level of care, including transfer and discharge notes. Follows the Five Rights of Medication Administration; verbalizes medication to patients/family; assesses prior to administration, noting allergies, parameters and potential side effects; reassesses and documents response. Coordinates and supervises delivery of nursing care, including delegation of tasks and maintains accountability for delegated care. Promotes a culture of safety: assesses patients for potential safety risks, adheres to hospital policies, initiates interventions, conducts bedside shift reports, documents nursing process, and ensures proper hand‑off during breaks. Assesses learning needs of patient/family; plans and provides instruction using applicable teaching methods; assesses and documents response. Cares for specific patient populations as necessary. Delivers patient‑centered care by embracing cultural diversity, respecting dignity, maintaining open communication, and actively listening. Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position. Education & Qualifications Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s Level Degree (required) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred). Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse license (NY Hospitals). Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse license (CT Hospitals). New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only). American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification preferred. Training Requirements BLS – Required upon hire (All Nursing Care Areas). ACLS – Required by end of orientation period (ED, ICU, CCU, SDU PCU, PACU, Cath Lab, GI, LDRP, IR, Float Pool – specific to competency and location; Cardiology focused units). PALS – Required by end of orientation period (ED, PACU, Pediatric Areas; either PALS or ENPC). NRP – Required by end of orientation period (MCH, NICU, LDRP, DR). EFM – Within 1 year of hire (LDRP). TNCC – Within 1 year of hire (ED (Required Danbury, Norwalk), ICU (Preferred), PACU (DH – Preferred)). ENPC – Within 1 year of hire (ED RN; either PALS or ENPC). TCAR – Within 1 year of hire (ICU (VBMC – Preferred), ICU/PACU (NH)).
