\nThe PRN Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides both direct and indirect nursing care to patients requiring emergency medical services. This role requires a thorough understanding of departmental and hospital policies related to the delivery of emergency care, ensuring safe, timely, and effective treatment. Strong interpretive, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential, as the position involves frequent interaction, collaboration, and consultation with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. \n

\nThis PRN role includes a commitment of one shift biweekly , one weekend per month , and coverage of one summer holiday and one winter holiday , supporting the dynamic needs of the Emergency Department while maintaining scheduling flexibility. \n

\nResponsibilities \n

• Assessment & Prioritization
\n
\n
• Performs accurate and thorough patient assessments to determine clinical needs and prioritize care appropriately.
\n
• Conducts risk assessments to identify potential complications and initiates timely interventions.
\n
\n
• Specimen Collection & Processing
\n
\n
• Collects correct and adequate blood and urine specimens as ordered by physicians, following proper techniques and safety procedures.
\n
• Accurately labels specimens and completes all required processing steps to ensure integrity and traceability.
\n
• Ensures appropriate and timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory, coordinating courier transport or outside-agency pickup when required.
\n

• Documentation & Communication

\n
• Maintains clear, complete, and timely documentation in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
\n
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support safe and coordinated care.
\n

• Applies strong problem-solving skills to evaluate situations, identify issues, and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.

• Equipment Operation & Skill Proficiency

• Operates clinical equipment safely and competently, ensuring proper function and reporting malfunctions promptly.

• Maintains proficiency in required clinical procedures and adheres to established standards of practice.

• Medication Safety
\n
\n
• Demonstrates safe medication practices, including accurate administration, monitoring, and adherence to all medication safety protocols.

\n Qualifications \n
\n
\n

\n
• Minimum of one year of Emergency Department or Critical Care experience required.
\n
• Ability to perform CPR in accordance with current clinical standards.
\n
• Completion of Baby Friendly Education within 6 months of hire.
\n
• PALS certification required within 6 months of hire.
\n
• TNCC certification required within 1 year of hire.
\n
• EPIC Preferred

• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support

• NIH - Stroke Certification
