Maintenance Superintendent

Role Overview The primary role of the Maintenance Superintendent is the direct supervision and performance of underground and surface maintenance department activities. The Superintendent is accountable for all mine maintenance operations and must safely plan, organize, manage, execute, and evaluate maintenance operations while providing exceptional leadership and direction through coaching, mentorship, and development in a safe and inclusive environment. Responsibilities Directs and coordinates all surface and underground maintenance activities. Ensures the company’s goals, objectives, and priorities are delivered in accordance with approved policies and procedures. Plans and schedules maintenance activities to maximize efficiency of assigned maintenance crews. Aligns maintenance objectives with production objectives and ensures adequate resources are in place. Accountable for achieving equipment performance targets and work‑management KPIs within the maintenance budget, while maintaining quality control, safety, and effective delegation to field staff, contractors, and tradespeople. Works with senior managers, other superintendents, and maintenance supervisors to ensure safe equipment operations, maximize reliability, and minimize costs. Manages all personnel (including contractors), equipment, tools, spare parts, and materials in the department’s area of responsibility. Prepares and approves preventative maintenance plans, allocates work to teams, oversees progress, solves problems, and takes corrective action when required. Assists in the preparation and negotiation of budgets and controls spending. Prepares reports and briefs on equipment, safety, project progress, and other matters. Leads and participates in meetings and briefings, both formal and informal, providing clarity and direction that supports the effective performance of integrated operations. Manages a diverse group of trades including mechanical, electrical, and fixed plant. Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with applicable codes and follows up on any required rework or modifications. Relays departmental needs and performance to senior company and client management. Coordinates resources with other departments to meet mutual goals and establishes a preventive maintenance program. Plans and schedules work to ensure proper distribution of assignments, adequate staffing, space, equipment, and supplies for performance of duties. Manages employee performance and adherence to company policies and procedures, ensuring training meets current and future mine needs. Participates in strategic planning meetings, investigates accidents and incidents, and determines corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensures compliance with Redpath USA Corporation and owners’ safety regulations and procedures, including OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and other applicable codes. If required to operate a company vehicle, must maintain an eligible driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Kept work areas safe and free of hazards; performs Field Level Risk Assessments. Ensures workers are qualified and capable of safely performing assigned work. Responsible for hiring, evaluating, training, disciplinary action, and dismissals of supervised staff. Complies with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures. Makes and keeps confidential Redpath and client information. Maintains compliance with Redpath’s policies, manuals, handbooks, directives, SOPs. Is willing to work in excess of 40 hours per week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations. Adheres to Redpath Core Competencies and performs all duties and responsibilities listed herein. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Duties and Responsibilities Assist other job functions as required. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in mining, mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred. Work Experience: Twelve (12) years of progressive maintenance experience in mine operations and/or engineering; ten (10) years in a managerial/supervisory capacity; preferred experience with underground/heavy duty equipment and electrical operations in a similar role. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials; knowledge of underground mining environments; ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil, structural, rock excavation); understanding of mine construction regulations; proficiency with computers and associated software; ability to pass background clearance, drug screening, and physical exam.
