Shift Supervisor, Custodial Operations (Third Shift) Job Type: Full Time / Part Time Reports To: Manager of Custodial Operations Position Summary This position is accountable for assisting the Manager of Custodial Operations in delivering institutional housekeeping programs to ensure clean, orderly and attractive conditions throughout all non‑leased campus buildings and suites, including accurately and timely set‑up and break‑down for special events. This position provides leadership and support to custodial staff, ensures continuity of operations, and makes decisions in alignment with established policies and procedures to maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment. In addition, this position serves as the Manager on Duty for Facilities during the overnight shift, acting as the primary point of contact for routine operational questions and addressing any emergencies that arise. Principal Accountabilities Effectively manage the assigned shift to ensure campus facilities are clean and attractive, monitoring task performance to ensure compliance with quality standards and identifying areas for service enhancements and improvement efficiencies. Act as the primary point of contact for routine operational questions and addressing any emergencies that arise. Assist in recruitment of assigned staff, and train, coach and supervise employees to ensure high motivation, providing orientation on department policies, procedures, and work standards. Assist with cost‑effective acquisition and assessment of materials, monitor and control inventory through an inventory and disbursement system, and maintain accurate and timely S.D.S. records. Participate in accurate and timely room event management, set‑up and break‑down of appropriate equipment to support faculty, staff and special events. Provide ongoing communication with assigned staff regarding department quality standards and priorities through regular staff meetings and training; perform regular daily inspections of spaces across campus. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications This position is best served by an individual with: Two years of progressive experience as a supervisor of custodial services at an institution of higher education or a facility of similar size and scope. Two or more years of post‑secondary education preferred. Demonstrated understanding of effective cleaning methods and a strong customer service orientation. Prior snow removal experience a plus. Strong interpersonal and human resources skills, and the ability to manage union employees within the parameters of a collective bargaining agreement. Ability to work independently. Knowledge of OSHA, S.D.S., RIDEM and APPA. Demonstrated computer skills, including MS Office, and experience with a CMMS system. This role is classified as essential personnel and may require off‑shift hours, including holdovers and callbacks based on business needs or emergency situations.
