PhlebotomistMichael Gottlieb Health Center - West Hollywood, CA 90046OverviewSalary Range $26.37 - $29.68 Hourly Position Type Full Time Education Level High School Travel Percentage Up to 25% Category Health CareDescriptionRequisition #: 50470Status: Full-time, Non-ExemptSchedule: Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PMOnsite or Hybrid: OnsiteBilingual (English/Spanish): Yes: Spanish Assessment required prior to offer.POSITION SUMMARY:Under the Nursing Manager, the Phlebotomist will complete tasks including: patient and specimen collection, packing and shipping of specimen, preparing samples in a safe and skillful manner. This work that requires sensitivity, accuracy and confidentiality. The lab experiences high volumes of patients of all ages, must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. On a daily basis, review appointment lists, prepare the draw station, greet patients, and gather all samples requested by the patient's health care provider. Must make sure to label all vials and containers properly for transportation to the testing lab.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groupsAnalyzing blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessaryPerform in-house CLIA-waived testsPrepare all collected specimens for testing and analysisCollect specimens for drug screens, alcohol tests etc.Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely mannerProcess billing informationPrepare specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patientsWill call patients that require repeat testing of unsatisfactory specimensInspires confidence from patients and visitors by performing and communicating in a professional manner at all timesProvide superior customer service to all patients. Greet patients in a courteous manner, respond to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skillsIs neat in appearance, always observing the dress code as establishedAlways wears lab coat (or approved apron / gown) and name tagAssists other laboratory personnel as workload permits without being requested to do soAssist in orientation of new staff members as requestedContinuously works at establishing a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all co-workersCommunicate with commercial laboratories when there are questions about specimens, such as missing identifiers or dates.Cleans and maintains all laboratory equipment used in the drawing and testing of blood specimensOrders laboratory supplies, as neededAdministrative and clerical duties as necessaryTravel to additional sites when neededOTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.QualificationsREQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or equivalentPhlebotomy certification from an accredited agency is preferred, such as NHAPrevious experience as a phlebotomistCPR certificationProven track record in providing exceptional customer serviceStrong communication skills; both written and verbalAbility to work independently or in a team environmentComfortable working under minimal supervisionKnowledge of:Demonstrates competence in all procedures required of a phlebotomist in accordance with institutional policies; with particular emphasis on blood samples, blood cultures, referral tests and specimen requirementsFamiliar with infection control policies and proceduresAbility to:Understand standard blood drawing practices and proceduresProficient with Microsoft Office SuiteExcellent communication skillsFlexible scheduleAble to stand on feet, bend, and move throughout shiftWORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less.
