Senior Advisor

Senior Advisor
Our client, a leading wealth management, planning and advisory firm for ultra-affluent families, is seeking a Senior Advisor for a direct hire role in New York City.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned investment and business development professional to join our New York team. This is not a traditional sales role focused on prospecting and closing. It is not a relationship management role with some business development attached. It is a deeply integrated trusted advisor and business development role, designed for someone who can credibly engage sophisticated families, understand complex investment needs, and articulate the value of independent advice. The ideal candidate will bring meaningful advisory experience with ultra-high net worth families, family offices, and/or institutions, with particular depth across alternative investments and private markets. You will be expected to leverage that expertise not only in serving existing clients, but also in developing new relationships and helping prospective families understand how an independent advisory model can address the complexity of their financial lives. If you are technically sharp, commercially minded, intellectually curious, and genuinely motivated by the belief that exceptional families deserve exceptional advice, this role was designed for you. You will join a stable, long-tenured team that takes collaboration seriously and measures success by the quality of the relationships it builds and the clarity, confidence, and progress of the families it serves. The right candidate will find here something rare in this industry, which is a firm whose interests are structurally aligned with its clients', a team that holds itself to genuine standards, and a professional home designed for the long term.
Character and Culture
- A deeply collaborative nature, and a genuine belief that the best outcomes are always collective ones
- Intellectual curiosity with a need to understand not just what a prospective or existing client wants, but why, and what they haven't yet thought to ask
- Purposeful and authentic in client relationships; comfortable with candour, not prone to telling people what they want to hear
- Commercially oriented without being transactional; able to build trust and develop relationships over the long term
- Tenacious in follow-through, humble in approach, and someone who takes the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously
- A natural inclination toward stewardship over salesmanship
Experience and Expertise
- 15+ years of relevant investment, advisory, and/or business development experience, ideally with a significant focus on ultra-high net worth and affluent family clients
- Demonstrated experience developing and cultivating relationships with UHNW individuals, family offices, founders, executives, and/or other sophisticated private clients
- Deep working knowledge across asset classes, with particular expertise and credibility in private markets and alternative investments
- Strong understanding of how alternatives, private equity, private credit, hedge funds, real assets, and other non-traditional investments can fit within broader client portfolios and objectives
- Strong command of integrated financial planning, and a solid understanding of how investment, tax, estate, and family governance decisions intersect
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex investment and alternative investment topics into clear, engaging, and actionable guidance for sophisticated (and non-specialist) family members alike
- Proven ability to identify opportunities, develop prospects, build trusted relationships, and convert those relationships into long-term client engagements
- Existing credibility and comfort as a public-facing professional, be it on panels, webinars, writing, or thought leadership
- Spanish language proficiency sufficient to engage effectively with Spanish-speaking clients and/or family members
Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications as an Investment Advising Representative (IAR)
- CFA designation and/or relevant licensing required
- Priority given to candidates with direct experience advising family offices, ultra-high net worth individuals, and multi-generational families
- Demonstrated success in business development, relationship origination, or new client acquisition within wealth management, investment advisory, family office, or a related environment
- Bilingual/Spanish strongly preferred
Primary Responsibilities
Business Development & Relationship Origination
- Develop and cultivate relationships with prospective UHNW families, family offices, founders, executives, and other centers of influence
- Serve as a senior representative of the firm in prospect meetings, helping prospective clients understand the firm's independent advisory model, investment philosophy, and broader value proposition
- Identify opportunities to introduce the firm's services through existing networks, professional relationships, centers of influence, and industry connections
- Build and maintain a sustainable pipeline of prospective relationships, with a long-term and highly consultative approach to business development
- Lead or participate in prospect discovery meetings, bringing investment and advisory expertise to understand a family's circumstances, priorities, and areas of complexity
- Partner with internal investment, planning, and client service teams to develop thoughtful and highly tailored proposals for prospective families
- Represent the firm at industry events, family office forums, conferences, panels, and other relevant settings to expand the firm's visibility and network
- Develop and contribute to thought leadership that strengthens the firm's position as a credible, independent voice in wealth and investment advisory
- Leverage Spanish language skills where appropriate to develop and deepen relationships with Spanish-speaking families and networks
Client Relationships & Advisory
- Own and deepen relationships with client families, serving as a trusted advisor across their broader financial and investment lives
- Identify and advance client priorities beyond investments: multi-generational planning, family governance, philanthropy, family office structure, and operating business considerations
- Lead client meetings and ensure all deliverables are not only accurate and timely, but genuinely illuminating
- Translate complex investment and financial topics into insights that empower families to make better decisions, not just accept recommendations
- Serve as a trusted thought partner on matters both inside and outside the firm's formal purview, as needs arise
- Identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships where additional advice or capabilities can meaningfully address evolving family needs
Strategic Investment & Alternatives Advisory
- Develop integrated investment plans anchored in each client family's unique goals, values, liquidity needs, and circumstances
- Evaluate and advise on the role of alternative and private market investments within broader portfolio strategies
- Assess existing and prospective alternative investments for fit, risk, liquidity, diversification, and alignment with client objectives
- Lead the development and ongoing updating of clients' Investment Policy Statements
- Review new client families' existing investments for alignment with their objectives and our investment principles
- Partner closely with clients' external tax advisors and other professional advisors to ensure a fully integrated financial strategy
- Stay attuned to changes in clients' lives, businesses, liquidity events, and investment opportunities that may warrant adjustments to their plans
Investment Allocations
- Provide non-discretionary clients with recommendations that are clear, actionable, and appropriately contextualized
- Manage discretionary client capital in accordance with clients' IPSs and the firm's investment principles
- Coordinate with tax advisors on asset placement strategy
- Attend Investment Committee meetings and remain actively engaged in the firm's investment activities, including the evaluation of alternative investment opportunities
- Ensure seamless investment execution in partnership with practice group members, client service, and operations
Reporting and Monitoring
- Provide ongoing information, analysis, and education to client families on their investments, including alternative investments and private market exposures
- Oversee the timely delivery and accuracy of investment reporting
- Manage the design and delivery of custom portfolio analyses
- Liaise with the investment and operations teams to address client questions with care and precision
