Temporary Election Lead

The Dakota County Elections Department is seeking persons to serve as temporary election leads. The temporary election lead assists elections staff in conducting election administration tasks, absentee voting, supporting department programs, and related duties as assigned. They will also serve as a team lead for and assist in training of temporary elections staff. Open positions are available at the Administration Center in Hastings, the Western Service Center in Apple Valley, and the Northern Service Center in West St Paul. Election judges serving at service centers assist with in person early voting during regular absentee voting hours, while election judges in Hastings assist with absentee voting, along with a variety of administrative tasks. Applicants applying for the Election Lead position are also encouraged to apply for the Election Judge Operations Specialist position.

• At least 18 years of age
• Minnesota resident for at least 20 days
• Citizen of the United States
• Able to read, write, and speak the English language
• Eligible to vote in Minnesota
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) AND
• Valid Driver's License

Duties & Responsibilities

These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

1. Lead a group of seasonal election judges responsible for carrying out duties related to voter registration, absentee voting through the mail, in person early voting, and managing election supplies and voting equipment.
2. Assist in training seasonal election judges.
3. Review and process voter registration applications and related documents using the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS).
4. Review and process absentee ballot applications and related documents using the SVRS.
5. Investigate and resolve issues of simple to moderate complexity related to incomplete and inaccurate voter registration and absentee ballot applications. Verify the accuracy of voter records and update within SVRS using quality control processes.
6. Issue absentee ballots to county residents through the mail, ensuring accuracy of materials.
7. Administer the in person early voting process at county service centers.
8. Provide election related information to the public through phone and email.
9. Prepare and complete orders of delivery and pickup for all election related activities.
10. Organize, inventory, prepare, and distribute the supplies and technologies used to conduct elections.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of Minnesota election processes, laws, policies and procedures Ability to prepare clear and concise reports. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with the public, department and County associates in a professional manner. Ability to organize work efficiently and effectively. Ability to use computers and computer programs proficiently Ability to perform accurate detail work with figures, statistical records, filing proofreading and spelling. Ability to effectively and efficiently work under pressure in a highly visible work environment during elections.

Work Environment Work is performed in a County office building. Some travel within Dakota County may be required. Lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Position may require travel within Dakota County and will require occasional use of a personal vehicle. Equipment that may be used include, but is not limited to, ballot counter, computer, tablet, printer, telephone, calculator, copy and scanning machines.
