The Environmental Lead will guide environmental planning, permitting, and stewardship initiatives across complex development programs. This position plays a critical role in balancing regulatory requirements, business objectives, and community expectations. The role spans the full project lifecycle, from early site evaluation and risk assessment through construction and long-term operations. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external partners, consultants, and regulators to drive responsible infrastructure development. The ideal candidate will bring strong environmental expertise, strategic judgment, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. Accountabilities: The Environmental Lead will own environmental and community performance initiatives across a large-scale infrastructure portfolio, ensuring projects are environmentally responsible, compliant, and aligned with long-term stewardship goals. This role requires strong leadership across internal teams, external partners, and regulatory stakeholders while driving practical solutions that support successful project delivery. Develop and implement environmental programs that strengthen permitting outcomes, build community trust, and deliver meaningful environmental benefits. Lead environmental due diligence and risk assessments for prospective sites, including evaluations related to wetlands, water resources, floodplains, endangered species, cultural resources, stormwater, air quality, noise, and construction impacts. Translate environmental findings into actionable recommendations that inform investment decisions, project timelines, and development strategies. Manage environmental investigations and liability reviews, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, archaeological reviews, cultural resource assessments, and property-related environmental evaluations. Establish environmental standards and oversee compliance across developers, utilities, engineering partners, and other third-party stakeholders. Review and audit environmental studies, mitigation plans, and construction practices to ensure alignment with established environmental objectives. Develop and manage permitting strategies involving federal, state, and local agencies, including environmental reviews, wetlands approvals, stormwater permits, air and water requirements, and waste management processes. Oversee environmental compliance programs during construction and early operations, including stormwater management, spill prevention, hazardous materials, and emerging environmental risks. Partner with teams across development, engineering, energy, site selection, and community relations to integrate environmental considerations into every stage of project planning. Identify opportunities to improve environmental practices, reduce risk, and create scalable processes for future infrastructure development. Requirements: The ideal candidate is an experienced environmental professional with a strong background in infrastructure development, permitting, and regulatory compliance. They should be comfortable managing complex projects, influencing stakeholders, and making strategic decisions in rapidly evolving environments. 8+ years of experience in environmental permitting, infrastructure development, energy, construction, or large-scale project delivery. Extensive experience navigating complex federal, state, and local environmental regulatory frameworks. Proven ability to manage environmental consultants, developers, contractors, and regulatory agencies across high-visibility projects. Strong understanding of how environmental risks impact financial performance, project schedules, and organizational reputation. Experience developing practical mitigation strategies that balance compliance requirements with business objectives. Knowledge of environmental assessments, permitting processes, construction compliance, and sustainability practices. Ability to establish standards, hold partners accountable, and make informed decisions when environmental risks arise. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex environmental topics to technical and non-technical audiences. Comfortable working independently as an individual contributor while collaborating across multiple teams. Ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments while managing competing priorities and long-term strategic goals. Benefits: Competitive compensation package based on experience, skills, and location. Opportunity to contribute to transformative, large-scale infrastructure initiatives. Remote work flexibility within the United States. Work alongside multidisciplinary teams focused on innovation, sustainability, and responsible development. Opportunity to influence environmental strategy and community impact at a global scale. Professional growth opportunities in a fast-moving technology and infrastructure environment.
