Dispatchers play a vital role in public safety, serving as the first point of contact for first responders and as a line of communication between the community and public safety agencies. As a dispatcher, you’ll handle law enforcement, fire, and medical emergency calls, often providing life‑saving instructions and a sense of calm until additional resources arrive. You’ll also provide non‑emergency assistance, including dispatching animal control and support for water, sewer, electric utility, and street maintenance services. Responsibilities Answer emergency and non‑emergency calls for police, fire, and other city services. Prioritize calls and dispatch police, fire, or other emergency units as appropriate. Maintain specialized records related to dispatch operations. Perform clerical work as required. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience performing duties similar to Dispatcher I with the City of Roseville. Completion of the twelfth‑grade GED or higher level degree. Valid California driver’s license (if required by position at appointment). Must obtain a California P.O.S.T. Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate within one year of appointment. Must obtain National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAEMD) Emergency Medical Dispatch Certificate within one year of appointment. Additional Information Applicants may be required to provide foreign education credential equivalency certification if applicable.
