Bus Driver

The Need

Open opportunity to immediately fill current vacancies at a minimum of 4 hours per day with the option to work up to 8 hours per day. There are 2 ways to qualify for this position: 1. If you already possess: A valid California Class B commercial driver's license with passenger and school bus endorsements; and A valid California Special Driver Certificate without the following restrictions: hydraulic brakes only, conventional or type 2 bus only. Note: the air brake/transit requirement may be waived for entry into the classification. Employees must get the hydraulic brake and/or conventional restriction(s) removed prior to completion of the six-month probationary period. and A valid First Aid Certification issued by an authorized agency; or 2. If you do not have the necessary licenses, we offer paid training to assist you with obtaining the certifications required. The Position

Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, drive a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school and other assigned locations along designated routes; assure safety of students during transportation activities.

The Candidate

Education and experience: Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent and experience as a school bus driver desirable. Licenses and other requirements: Valid California Class B commercial driver's license with passenger and school bus endorsements. Valid California Special Driver Certificate without the following restrictions: hydraulic brakes only, conventional or type 2 bus only. The air brake/transit requirement may be waived for entry into the classification. Employees must get the hydraulic brake and/or conventional restriction(s) removed prior to completion of the six-month probationary period. This requirement may also be waived if all transportation needs are fulfilled and the department is fully staffed and does not require the need for drivers to operate a transit school bus with air brakes. Valid First Aid Certification issued by an authorized agency. Valid DOT medical Examiners Certificate.

The Details

Testing information Step 1: Application screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. If applicant does not have the required experience and certifications, an invitation to participate in our training program will be issued so you may become qualified to move to the next step. Step 2: Qualification appraisal interview (weighted 100%) A qualification appraisal interview for this classification is not scheduled at this time, however applicants may access the Job Details section in this posting to check for updates. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list. Additional salary information New hires – initial salary placement The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria: Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification) Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period. Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years. Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations. Education incentives All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification. General Requirements (Upon Offer of Employment)

Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States. Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis. The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam. Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined. All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment. Eligibles will be required to provide a current DMV report and/or proof of auto insurance to the Classified Human Resources Department before being certified for a final selection interview for positions that require the employee to drive a district vehicle and/or hold a valid California driver's license.
