Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a real difference in the lives of students as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students and their peers, educators, and school staff. This contract opportunity near Kansas City, KS, runs from August 2026 through May 2027 and offers 37.5 hours per week in a dynamic educational setting.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification and licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with the ability to navigate between both languages smoothly
- Previous experience supporting D/HH individuals in educational, corporate, or community environments is highly valued
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards
- Must present a current resume and licensure at the time of submission
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken English to ASL and ASL to English, ensuring clear and accurate communication
- Facilitate understanding and engagement for D/HH students during classroom instruction and school activities
- Serve as a language and cultural liaison, fostering inclusivity and supporting student participation
- Provide interpreting services with sensitivity and professionalism for two students at the elementary level
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to maintain an accessible and equitable learning environment
