Ambulatory RN | Family Practice

Join a dedicated healthcare team in a regional medical office serving the Midwest community. This role supports physicians and mid-level providers by delivering comprehensive patient assessments, treatments, testing, and education within a family practice setting.

General Summary

The Ambulatory RN assists providers by performing clinical duties including medication administration, patient education, and procedural support. This position requires strong organizational skills, professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking ability, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols such as infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to ensure optimal patient care.
• Maintain and care for central lines and prevent surgical site infections according to policy.
• Administer medications via oral, IM, SC, topical, and IV routes as ordered.
• Assist providers with procedures by preparing instruments and supplies.
• Support examinations within scope of practice and perform phone triage.
• Serve as a liaison between providers and patients, including communicating test results and answering patient inquiries.
• Document patient complaints, visit details, and care accurately in medical records.
• Manage and update medication and summary lists per provider preferences.
• Maintain inventory of medications and supplies.
• Manage venous access devices and administer IV push medications and flushes as ordered.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and accurately obtain vital signs and weights.
• Educate patients and guardians about electronic health record portals and encourage enrollment.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens as ordered.
• Provide patient teaching and supportive services as directed.
• Train nursing and medical assistant staff in clinic roles.
• Schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and obtain necessary precertifications.
• Demonstrate accountability, independence, teamwork, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.

Education

Graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse program is required.

Experience

Previous nursing or healthcare experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and License

Current RN license in a Compact state or the state of Missouri is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals, is expected. Minimal physical discomfort may occur.
