Field Inspector

About the Position We are seeking a Field Inspector to support large public infrastructure programs, including transit and rail-related capital projects. This role ensures construction activities comply with applicable codes, regulations, contract specifications, and approved project drawings through ongoing regular site inspections and documentation. It also supports project delivery teams by monitoring construction quality, verifying materials and workmanship, and documenting field activities. This position is full‑time, on‑site, and located in Atlanta, GA. Responsibilities Monitor on‑site construction activities to verify materials, workmanship, and installed products comply with approved construction contract documents. Conduct inspections and site observations to document construction quality and compliance with project requirements. Prepare and maintain daily inspection reports documenting work activities, quantities used, and jobsite conditions. Report documented construction quality issues to project leadership and quality assurance personnel. Review and markup construction documents when minor field modifications occur. Support development and implementation of project quality control plans and recommend corrective or preventive actions when deficiencies are identified. Coordinate with the Resident Engineer, Office Engineer, and other project staff to understand technical requirements, submittals, and construction documentation associated with the assigned project. Assist with technical review of contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs). Verify quantities associated with contractor progress payments. Identify and report safety concerns or schedule deviations observed in the field. Provide mentorship or guidance to junior inspection staff when applicable. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree in engineering, construction management, engineering technology, or related field (in lieu of the educational requirement, directly related experience will substitute on a year‑for‑year basis). 5+ years’ experience supporting construction, rehabilitation, or infrastructure projects. Ability and knowledge to read and understand contract specifications and drawings. Ability to read and generally understand applicable construction codes. Knowledge and understanding of engineering and architectural terminology specifically related to the mass transit and rail industry and general practices. Experience performing field inspections within infrastructure, transportation, or general construction environments. Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law. Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or engineering technology. One or more of the following certifications: Right‑of‑Way (ROW), Track Standards, Flagging & Communications, PTSCTP (Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program), State Safety Oversight (SSO) and/or HAZWOPER. Current OSHA 30 certification. Experience with public transit, rail, or transportation infrastructure programs. Experience with federally funded transportation projects. Experience mentoring or training junior inspection staff. Compensation Details Expected Salary: $79k‑$89k/year ($38‑$43/hour).
