JOB SUMMARY

Emergency Radiologic Technologists work as part of a health care team to provide critical information necessary in diagnosing patients of all ages by performing x-rays, computed tomography (CT) and laboratory studies for a variety of illnesses and injuries. Position will also be responsible for assisting clinical staff with other duties as assigned.

• Works as part of a healthcare team to perform required patient interventions including radiological procedures, laboratory procedures, and assisting physicians and nurses with patient care.

• Operates radiological equipment in strict adherence to manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies and procedures including completing regular and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, notifying appropriate personnel of needed repairs, etc.
• Minimizes patient discomfort while preparing for and performing radiological procedures ordered by physicians including gently positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devise, moving equipment, adjusting equipment controls, etc.
• Minimizes radiation to patient and team members by practicing radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
• Produces high quality radiography by following manufacturer guidelines and industry standards/procedures, properly developing radiographs, observing radiographic results, making adjustments as needed, etc.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by participating in continuing education, reviewing professional publications, and involvement in professional societies as required by licensing board.
• Maintains current ARRT license free of disciplinary action. Also maintains current required certifications.
• Responsible for all laboratory duties, including by not limed to:
• • Performing all physician ordered laboratory tests.
  • Analyzing bodily fluids (i.e., blood, urine, and tissue samples) and documenting findings.
  • Logging data from medical tests and entering results into patients’ medical records.
  • Discussing results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with physicians and nurses.
  • Maintaining appropriate par levels of inventory for laboratory supplies by monitoring and reporting inventory supplies to appropriate personnel.
  • Operating laboratory equipment in strict adherence with manufacturer’s instructions and facility policies and procedures including completing regular and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, notifying appropriate personnel of needed repairs, etc.
  • Observing laboratory safety protocols.
  • Documenting quality control information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
  • Troubleshooting laboratory data when results are unreasonable given current clinical conditions.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge of laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards by participating in continuing education.
  • Understanding and following the process for sending out laboratory tests that are not able to be performed in the facility.
  • Maintaining a current knowledge of state specific laboratory regulations including CLIA and COLA.
• Complies with all HIPAA regulations.
• Adheres to facility Safety Program and industry standards to protect patients, facility visitors, and team members.
• Participates in drills and skills fairs as part of annual evaluations to further the company’s compliance with QAPI and safety goals.
• Follows facility safety rules and procedures.
• Adheres to policies and protocols for proper storage, handling, and disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
• Documents and reports all procedures and interventions provided to patients.
• Maintains appropriate par levels of inventory withing the facility by monitoring and reporting inventory supply to appropriate personnel.
• Maintains a clean environment within the facility, including patient care areas, waiting areas, lounges, storage areas and offices by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Assists team members with room maintenance, patient flow and vital signs.
• Assists physicians with procedures as needed, such as preparing patients for examinations, tests, treatments, etc.
• Plays an active role in all patient care within their scope of practice.
• Utilizes training and patient care skills to promote patient cooperation, reduce patient anxieties, and create a positive patient experience.
• Communicates effectively to facilitate the coordination of patient care among all provider disciplines.
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication competencies such as problem solving, negotiating, engaging in conflict management, team building, and providing supportive feedback to both patients and team members.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Required: Associate Degree (two-year college or technical school)
• Required: Graduate of accredited School of Radiology

Experience:

• Required: A minimum of one year as a practicing X-Ray and computed tomography technologist.
• Preferred: Previous experience in an outpatient facility or hospital preferred.

Computer Skills:

• Basic computer skills

Certifications and Licenses:

• Required: ARRT, BLS, and Texas Radiologic Technologist License

Other Requirements:

• Cognitive skills as related to the position. Routine heavy lifting required using safe lifting procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations. This position requires frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying, reaching, bending/stooping, and speaking. May need to lift or turn patients. There is occasional sitting while keying in data on a computer, answering telephones, and communicating with co-workers, management, physicians, etc. It requires finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination for easy and skillful use of hands when working with equipment. Possible exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to an emergency room environment.
