Position: Physician for Division Director - Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism

Our organization is looking for a qualified MD/DO Physician, who is board certified or eligible in Pediatrics and Medical Genetics and Genomics. This role is available at the rank of Associate or Professor on the Academic Track, or Assistant Professor on the Tenured Track, within the Department of Pediatrics, specifically in the Division of Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism. The selected candidate will also take on the responsibilities of Division Director and may lead the Rare Disease Center of Excellence, depending on their interests, experience, and training.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide clinical care for both children and adults, dedicating up to 60% of time to this aspect.
• Devote 30% of time to advancing the Pediatric Genetics Division as a hub for genetic and genomic research, fostering interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations in clinical and research activities.
• Engage in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Oversee clinical operations and research initiatives as the Director of the Rare Disease Center of Excellence.
• Establish and maintain a research program focused on the molecular and cellular foundations of rare diseases, innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, or the application of new genomic technologies.
• Facilitate partnerships between pediatric and adult medicine to ensure comprehensive care for individuals with genetic disorders throughout their lifespan.
• Collaborate with a team of 6 geneticists and 1 Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) within the Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism Division.
• Work alongside a dedicated group of 10 Genetic Counselors.
• Lead interactions with the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and collaborate with a large Maternal-Fetal Medicine program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
• Provide care to a diverse patient population across Minnesota and the surrounding region, including many with complex disorders. Our service is the largest genetics program in the state and region, addressing a wide array of conditions.

About the Department:

The Department of Pediatrics is a vibrant academic unit with over 380 full-time faculty members, consistently ranking among the top 10 nationally for NIH funding. Pediatric care is delivered at our state-of-the-art facility, the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital, which opened in 2011.

The Division of Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism is dedicated to providing exceptional, compassionate care through a commitment to scientific collaboration and interdisciplinary efforts. Our faculty members are highly engaged, and the Department of Pediatrics offers robust support for faculty development. The division boasts a strong research portfolio and collaborates with various pediatric specialists across the department.

Recently, the Division established a National Organization of Rare Disorders-recognized Rare Disease Center of Excellence (RDCoE) within the Department of Pediatrics and Medical School, serving as a focal point for rare disease research and innovative clinical care programs.
