Job Summary About the Agency: An all-service VA Medical Center in an all-season recreational getaway! Physiatrist needed in Augusta, Maine. Must have an unrestricted state medical license, qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. VA Maine Healthcare System (formerly Togus VA Medical Center) proudly serves Maine's veterans at a main campus in Augusta or any of nine outpatient clinics. It is a modern 67-bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as 40 Skilled-Longer Stay beds, a 25-bed Dementia Unit, and a hospice unit. The oldest veteran’s facility in the country (est. 1866) has much of its 500+ acres as natural woodland habitat for wildlife. Salary will be determined by the local Physician/Dentist Compensation Panel and is commensurate with education, experience and qualifications. Duties Provide patient care in the Pain Management Setting, including clinical outpatient and inpatient services as needed. Provide physiatry services as specified in your clinical privileges. Perform services such as new patient consultation, established (follow-up) visits, Botox injections, occipital nerve blocks, sacroiliac blocks, joint injections, and trigger point injections. Explain risks, benefits, and alternative treatments to the patient, obtain informed consent before invasive procedures. Evaluate the patient to assess any changes in physical status and make recommendations for continued care as needed. Be BLS certified. Participate in hospital committees, departments, and in-service programs and acquire CMEs as required. Work effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health‑care professionals, treating them with respect and dignity. Comply with information security policy and procedures. Provide care appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturity of adult and/or geriatric patients, demonstrating knowledge of age-related factors on the competence assessment checklist. Physical Requirements This position requires a full range of physical activity, including lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulder, using fingers and both hands, walking, standing, repeated bending, and rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Required Skills & Qualifications Basic Requirements: Proficient in written and spoken English. Doctor of Medicine or osteopathic medicine (equivalent degree from accredited medical education). Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or district. Reference VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
