Commercial Auto Claims Specialist

Job Summary Individual contributor role in the Commercial Auto line of business responsible for managing moderate to high complexity commercial claims, investigating, evaluating, and resolving claims following company protocols while meeting quality, timeliness, and customer service standards. The role requires regular communication with customers and insureds and may support designated accounts. The position offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule, requiring 2 days in a CNA office per week. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Manage an inventory of moderate to high complexity commercial claims, verifying policy coverage, conducting investigations, developing resolution strategies, and authorizing disbursements within authority limits. Provide exceptional customer service by interacting professionally and effectively with insureds, claimants, and business partners, achieving quality and cycle‑time standards, and responding promptly to inquiries. Verify coverage and establish timely and adequate reserves by reviewing and interpreting policy language and partnering with coverage counsel on complex matters. Conduct focused investigations to determine compensability, liability, and covered damages through gathering relevant documents, taking recorded statements, and working with experts. Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external partners, suppliers, and experts to resolve claims efficiently. Authorize and ensure claim disbursements by determining liability, negotiating settlements, and escalating to management as needed. Contribute to expense management through timely and accurate claim resolution and active oversight of resources. Identify and address subrogation, salvage opportunities, or potential fraud by evaluating claim facts and referring to Recovery or SIU resources. Achieve quality standards on every file by adhering to company guidelines and ensuring proper documentation and disbursement. Maintain compliance with state/local regulatory requirements and stay current on commercial insurance laws, regulations, or trends. Serve as a mentor or coach to less experienced claim professionals (if required). Perform additional duties as assigned. Key Skills and Abilities Solid knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, and claim practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships and summarize information for customers, claimants, and senior management. Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external work partners. Independent judgment that solves moderately complex problems and makes sound business decisions. Investigative experience combined with analytical mindset and critical thinking. Strong work ethic, time‑management, and organizational skills. Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with high productivity. Negotiation skills for low to moderate complexity settlements. Adaptability to a changing environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn business‑related software. Appreciation for diverse opinions and ideas. Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Typically a minimum of four years of relevant experience in claim handling. Completion of the CNA Claim Training Program may be considered after two years of claim handling experience. Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Insurance Adjuster License within 90 days of hire, where applicable. Professional designations (e.g., CPCU) are a plus. Compensation In certain jurisdictions, CNA is required to provide a compensation estimate. For District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington, the base pay range for this level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually. Salary determinations depend on experience, skills, certifications, and location.
