At My Sister’s House, we are committed to a shared mission to break cycles of domestic violence by providing comprehensive support, services and education to our clients and community. We are honored to provide critical, life-changing domestic violence survival programs to South Carolina’s Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. The goal of the Domestic Violence Advocate is to provide flexible case management, support, advocacy, and assistance to victims of domestic violence throughout the healing process .  

The Case Manager works directly with clients to establish a care plan. The Case Manager ensures that each client has access, with the dignity of choice, to group and individual counseling, court advocacy and housing support offered through My Sister’s House. Removing barriers to sustainable, safe, independent living often requires referrals to community and partner organizations, the Case Manager must be willing to learn the ecosystem of support in the Lowcountry. This position requires the individual to create and provide a safe, private, confidential environment where clients can not only make decisions but take action to make those decisions a reality. The Case Manager is well-versed in trauma-informed communication, has a high degree of emotional intelligence, and is meticulous in their documentation. Occasional weekend or non-traditional hours may be required.

Case Management and Advocacy

• Provide trauma informed crisis intervention services, including telephone or in person intervention, counseling, advocacy, accompaniment, and referrals to our clients
• Conduct comprehensive needs, barriers, and danger assessments through client intake
• Educate clients about the dynamics of domestic violence to ensure understanding of victims' rights
• Develop individual safety plans with clients to account for their specific needs - can include safety during their time in emergency shelter, in their on the job and in public places

• Develop strong case plans for each client with agreed upon goals and defined measures and/or criteria of success

• Work with victims to identify immediate needs and make referrals for services based on individual goals of the client.
• Complete a needs assessment with the client.
• Inform and assist victims to apply for victim compensation.
• Provide follow up through phone calls, virtual meetings, and/or in-person meetings.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of the resources in the community and share with clients
• Participate in Domestic Violence Coordinating Council (DVCC) meetings.
• Maintain client records and prepare program reports.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for the crisis line. Answer calls, make referrals and provide in-take for emergency shelter clients.
• Serve as the DSS Liaison and attend monthly meetings with DSS as needed

RECORD KEEPING

• Complete weekly, monthly, and semi-annual reports as directed

• Update client database daily (case notes, activities, referrals).
• Oversee completion of various questionnaires to be able to measures outcomes
• Document pertinent information in client files which would include, goal plans, advocacy letters and benefits applications.
• Ensure completion of all financial assistance forms.

MEETINGS

• Attend staff and case management meetings

• Attend all required trainings
• Participate in community meetings as requested

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

• Must be knowledgeable in Office365 Suite and basic computer functions
• Must be able to work efficiently in our client database, Apricot
• Must adapt quickly to evolving technology needs and requirements to maintain client records and complete basic job functions

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of three years of human services experience
• Ability to work with a team and independently – must be self-directed .
• Excellent emotional intelligence and communication skills!
• Must possess excellent organizational skills.
• Must be knowledgeable in Office365 Suite and basic computer functions.
• Must adapt quickly to evolving technology needs to maintain records and complete basic job functions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and personal boundaries .
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license, clean driving record and willingness to travel.

• Must pass background checks.
• Must become a Certified SC Victim Service Provider within one year of employment.
