Registered Nurse (Staff - Outpatient Behavioral Health) - EDRP Approved

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications English Language Proficiency – Conformity with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) requires proficiency in basic written and spoken English for direct patient care positions. Graduate of a professionally accredited nursing school (ACEN or CCNE) or completion of equivalent master's level bridge program coursework that allows registration prior to graduation. Upon state licensure, the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion of the bridge program. Foreign‑school graduates must hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth, and provide documentation of accreditation or, if necessary, a formal degree equivalency validation from an accepted evaluation agency such as ICD. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: candidates meeting basic education but lacking licensure may be appointed at the entry step of the grade for a 120‑day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure, potentially extended up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis. Grade and level scope and dimension criteria apply as detailed in the online assessment ( Physical requirements include lifting 45 lbs, carrying 45 lbs, pulling 6 hours, pushing 6 hours, walking 6 hours, standing 6 hours, and other specified mobility and sensory thresholds. Duties The Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing process for direct patient care and for supervising other RN’s. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age‑specific components. Coordinate care focused on patient education, self‑management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Follow procedures per established policies and guidelines. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence care outcomes. Execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and innovative approaches for complex client care. For behavioral health RN roles, deliver recovery‑oriented psychiatric care, telemental health, community‑based services, and self‑awareness support for Veterans with behavioral health conditions. Engage in team huddles, employ therapeutic communication and de‑escalation practices, and educate Veterans, families, and significant others on treatment plans. Assist or direct safety resolution, collaborate with program leadership, and facilitate nurse‑led psychoeducational groups and emergency responses. Document assessments, risk screens, measurement‑based care tools, reminders, and veteran care plans following facility policy. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in outpatient behavioral health settings, including specialized service teams such as NPAT, PCMHI, BHIP, Hospital Liaison, ICMHR, and HUDVASH. For ICMHR and HUD‑VASH assignments, maintain a current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license and the ability to operate a GSA vehicle for community visits. Continue duties as an ongoing responsibilities within the Education Section of this announcement. Telework may be offered on an ad‑hoc basis for employees who meet training and agreement requirements; this position is primarily onsite and not a virtual role.
